Vintage Quality Versus Current Quality

Post by nystockboy » Tue Apr 09, 2019 8:30 am

Hello,
In a previous thread, I spoke of my interest in adding a Doxa Sub to my small group of watches. Given my newby status regarding the Doxa brand, I felt that the initial purchase should be new, using the Doxa website. In reading everything I could find about the brand, I was struck by the negative comments regarding modern quality versus vintage quality of brand offerings.

During approximately what time period did the brand suffer the drop in quality and specifically what parts of the watch were most affected? Based on what I've read, the quality suffered when the company was taken over by new management.

The short question is, if I were to start looking for desirable older models, up until what year would I look, recognizing that later than that year, quality would suffer.

Pre Aubrey for traditional Doxa. Lots of info on the net.

The negative comment was probably made by a Doxa hooker named Moke Cooke. Last I heard he drank liquor and passed out with his wife’s finger in his b hole.

Because nothing new is as good as the original.

I had a vintage reissue shake hunt a few years ago. It was very nice and I wish I kept it along with 13 other watches I sold.

I’m a big fan of the vintage stuff myself. I own/have owned most everything “contemporary “ Doxa has made and not had any QC issues per se. There have been a couple things that were not done that you would expect at the price point like hand edges with less than perfect finish, but no bad production issues.
