Sub 300 anniversary compared to 1200T?

Post by 3migo » Sun Aug 06, 2017 2:08 pm

A few months back, I owned a 1200T Searambler that I now regret selling and I'm looking to get a Doxa back into my stable. I like the aesthetic of the new 300 anniversary, but not sure if I'm willing to pay the premium over something like the 1200T or 1500T even.

Curious if anyone has handled the 300 anniversary compared to the 1200T? Thoughts?

Many times.

The T 1000/1200 series is close to the late 60's -70's 300T.

The 300 (No T) that's the current new release it a near 1:1 of the first generation Doxa 300 from 1967.

I prefer the No T simply because of it's thin case and domed crystal. It's lighter than the 1000/1200.

They all "suffer" from the new bracelet, but that's a personal opinion. Nothing beats old school rice.

Back to your question, the 1000/1200 is going to have more heft and presence. The 300 No T is light and a like wearing a piece of 1967.

All up to your personal preference.

Mike knows Doxas, and his opinion is gold here. I totally agree that the 1200T feels and wears like a much larger watch than the new 300 reissue, although it is by no means a very large watch. Here is a comparison pic.

I love the 300 reissue but not on my wrist. Dial was too small and overall it wears smaller than the 1200 which is close in overall dimensions while having better proportions imho.
300 will have that vintage vibe for sure

Loved the 300 reissue that I had, great value too. LOVED the dome sapphire.

Only issue is that I found the dial to be pretty small.
I've never owned another Doxa though.

I really liked the way that my 1200T wore, such a nice watch. While I wasn't a huge fan of the BOR bracelet on it, it also wasn't a deal breaker.

I think at this point it's going to come down to which one I find for sale first between a 300 or a 1200T.

My 2 Doxas:

Sub 300 50th Anniversary vs 1200t.

I find them both to wear really comfortably, especially the sub300 ( BOR is great IMHO ).
Obviously the 1200t wears a bit taller, and has a larger more open dial.
The Sub300 wears quite slim, being very true to vintage and has a small dial comparatively.

As Mike said 300T is a different model again, but I have never had one of those.

Interesting, I didn't realize that the 300 was that much thinner than the 1200T. But after seeing everyone's photos, I'm really loving the domed crystal on the 300. I really enjoyed my old 1200T Searambler, but I think a Sub 300 'Rambler is in my future soon... The hunt begins.

Year+ old thread but came across it while surfing DOXA. Fascinating comparison between two SUB era's – I am waiting on a SUB 300 50th Searambler as I type. And as Watch Guys do I'm already looking at a 1200T Professional as a modern complement so the side-by-side above doesn't help matters. ;)

Never owned, worn or even seen a DOXA in real life but am infatuated with the brand and the watch and I'm curious how I'll respond to the smaller dial on the 300. But it's that curious proportion that contributes to the overall unique DOXA character. Frankly kind of amazing that a mere 1.5mm larger dial diameter on the 1200T makes such a difference while still being subtle.
