First Doxa

Post by koda240 » Tue Jun 18, 2013 10:08 pm

I've never owned a Doxa and am considering giving one a whirl. I kind like adding some orange to the stable from time to time. Thoughts on which model you like best and why? Naturally i can read the site myself but I'm sure you guys will have some valuable first hand experience.

1200t for me but if you've got anything larger than a 7" wrist you might want to look at the 5000t or 750t.

Modern? Go 600 or 1000. They sit better on the wrist.

Like larger? Go 750.

5000t is pretty solid, especially at the price they are going for now.

If I could own any Doxa it would be a 750T or 750GMT...

I love the 750 and 5000 if you like the applied polished markers vs painted dials.
1200 is classic but wears smaller.

I love mine but it does take some getting used to the small dial.

Doxas have always been on my radar for whatever reason. I think I like the unique case style. Never taken the plunge, but maybe someday. Given my wrist size, I'd probably look at the 600t, 1000t, or 1200t. I think the 750t and the 5000t would be too big for my wrist, and I wish they hadn't gone away from the beads of rice bracelet on the 5000, particularly since the clasp looks really good on that one.

I do worry about Doxa customer service issues a bit. I'm sure there's no problem with 97% of the watches, but the the customer service for those who do have problems seems pretty spotty.

I had a 600t which was a pretty watch but the dial was way to small.

Right there is the problem. The watches are fine; subject to issues as any mechanical watch. Their response time and follow-through is absolutely horrible. I have been waiting for a replacement screw bar for an 800Ti since October of 2012....

Buy used....have serviced locally.

It pains me to say this, but that is what soured things for me.

Opinion Terry....it's just right for me with an 8" wrist.

All about personal preference bud. The 600 is the same as the "real ones"

I remember you talking about the screw bar thing before - that's just crazy; it's a screw bar - Doxa should have drawers full of the things. The other pet peeve I have is how the Doxa website lists a "factory price" and then a "special price," like they're giving you some sort of break on what the watch actually costs. Just seems silly to me.

That said, I still think about buying one from time to time, even new. I just like the design.

I prefer the 1000/1200T, but they wear small because of the dial.

FWIW I have owned every size of the modern Doxa and the one that fit my smallish wrist best is the 1200T. i don't find the dial too small, it works well with the case and the entire package.
cheers,

Keith
