The 2017 service makes this a great buy.

First and only Rolex. 16800 transitional matte dial.
Sold it when we started looking for houses 6 years ago. Huge regret.

Absolutely. The case looks nice and thick on that one, and the lug holes are very sharp.R@cerx wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 12:37 pmAlways buy condition first, the recent service on this one makes it a great buy.Baffo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 12:31 pmI was looking at it literally 5 mins ago and came here to post about it.R@cerx wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 11:28 amHere's a great choice in your price range.

There may be a 14060 in my future. Some awesome folks went way out of their way to find one for me. I’s being sent to a dealer for final verification. I can’t wait!

Listen dude, it’s not creepy to buy the seller, it’s only a little odd when they/them aren’t selling watches.

Re: First Sub for me…
Have you handled a 14060M (you want the M version, with the more modern movement)? They look great, but if a regular 5 digit Rolex feels "sort of vintage", the 14060M feels "vintage." It has hollow endlinks, hollow bracelet, and a particularly floppy clasp (the diver extension doesn't snap in like on the SD or 16610 Sub).Wario406 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 5:19 pmOk folks, you gave me great advice while ago on what SMP to buy, now I’m hoping you’ll share advice on my first Rolex Sub.
As you may know, I’m in process of a substantial sell off to find my sub and all in I should be raising about $8.5k. I can stretch a little higher if need be.
I’m thinking of a 5 digit 14060 no date, but am wonder about others.
Also, any recommendations on where to buy?
Thanks in advance! You guys are so awesome!!!
As far as buying -- there are so many backpack "dealers" now, and so many established dealers are flogging beat shit at top prices. If I had to make a recommendation krylyuzh (https://lunaroyster.com/) and Jacek (https://tropicalwatch.com/) both sell what I would considered to be "honest" watches. Not saying other dealers are selling fakes, but a lot of the other ones focus on making mediocre watches present well while krylyuzh and Jacek sell mediocre watches as exactly what they are -- that way if they have a good one, you know it's good.
If you're willing to go watch only, I think you can get a good 14060M for $8500. You might struggle finding something that I would want to own, complete, at that price though. Of course, I'm dirt poor so I'm not tracking prices as closely as I used to.
As far as alternatives, I think the 16000 SD is a great model and has typically been underpriced relative to the quality. A basic black 16610 is always a classic choice as well if you don't want to deal with the hollow endlinks and crappy clasp.
Re: First Sub for me…
I’ll say it again—16600 is my favorite watch of all time. I love 14060s, but as Jacob said they feel pretty light and a little unsubstantial on the wrist (I won’t say cheap feeling, but some might). Some may prefer that, but for me the 16600 offers a more appealing feel especially with the SELs. And they’re not much more than 14060s and 16610s are. Obviously though, get what appeals most to you. I’ll never turn down giving a 16600 pitch to someone who’s in the market for a 5-digit Rolex diver.

Re: First Sub for me…
The only downside of a 16600 IMO is that it wears tall and somewhat floppy on a (well, mine at least) small thin wrist. If you're a fat guy, the caseback will sink in and wear very comfortably. If your wrist is flat, I'm sure it's probably ok as well. But small and boney? Probably try before you buy.dukerules wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 8:48 amI’ll say it again—16600 is my favorite watch of all time. I agree with your assessment of the 14060M. It's not cheap feeling but when I first took mine out of the box I was surprised at the lightness, and that's after owning a bunch of 5 digits. I'm sure it would be shocking if you're used to modern Omega and Rolex.

Re: First Sub for me…
Great information on this thread, so it appears a 14060 or 16610 would work if what I want is a sub to wear on a nato, right?
