Tudor Ranger + tropic rubber
Tudor Ranger + tropic rubber
A few months back I briefly owned the JLC Polaris Date and very much loved the way it looked on its rubber strap. The watch had issues and went back to JLC, but I missed the look.
I met Peter for dinner a few weeks ago and had the opportunity to see his Black Bay 58 on a Watch Gecko tropic rubber strap. I loved the look & feel of this strap and suspected that a Tudor Ranger might work on this style strap, but I couldn’t find any photos of such a combination. In addition, having a wrist that is about 8” I needed a strap that would fit and not be too lopsided on the bottom, because that just annoys me. A quick check of the Watch Gecko website indicated that their 22mm tropic rubber was a bit longer than the 20mm - a good start.
I managed to snag a late model Ranger and my strap arrived today. I think the result works very well, giving me a similar look to that lovely JLC, but at a fraction of the cost. The strap fits me well, while also providing plenty of adjustment in both directions.
Now there will be photos of this combo in case someone else is considering it too.

That works.
Re: Tudor Ranger + tropic rubber
Thanks Matt. They clearly don’t compete but the Tudor does offer a screw down crown, lug holes, and you can actually dive into a swimming pool with it on.mattcantwin wrote:That works.

I like the look Hop.
Now I should try my tropic on the BB58.

Looks good. I bet it makes the watch feel pretty lightweight, too.

I like that. Looks very normally sized on you.

Thanks fellas. I’m pleased with the look. The Ranger is already an easy watch to wear, but this does make it light and comfy. With its screw crown and 150m water resistance, the tropic fits the character of the watch well.

Keep thinking of trying a tropic for my BB58. Nice Ed!

Looks great. Do the Watchgecko straps still have that strong smell?

Smell is minimal to me, definitely less than Isofrane.
Re: Tudor Ranger + tropic rubber
i maybe wanna try one of those (22mm) on the blue 65.
can't believe i'm about to ask this but...
ed, do you think that gecko rubber tropic is soft enough to squeeze between its lugs?

It was squishy when I inserted it, so yes.jtbenson wrote:i maybe wanna try one of those (22mm) on the blue 65.

It’ll work well on 65. Before I got the Ranger I considered hitting you up to discuss that 65.
