Been thinking of finally trying a Pelagos
Been thinking of finally trying a Pelagos
I love my IWC XVIII but feel it may be time for a change and selling it would put me into Tudor budget.
I’ve only ever handled a Pelagos once and it was for a couple minutes at port on a cruise. It was a 2-liner and all I remember was how cool it was.
That being said I kinda like the new in-house versions and don’t think my handling of a two liner five years ago won’t come with any bias in it being slightly thicker. I don’t mind the wall of text and think that’ll be negligible anyway in the flesh.
I kinda like the blue one.
I remember the initial reaction here was negative but have people come around to the blue? I have no way of trying one on.

The blue still sucks.

I'd stay away from the blue and yellow teeth models.

I'd give Shreve in SF a call. It's been a while since I've been there but the last time I was they had a NOS two-liner in the case.

If you want a blue, Ti diver, go with the Sinn T1 or T2. Pelagos only works in black.

I actually like the blue in person. My buddy has one and I think it’s great.
If it’s your main/only watch then definitely black.
Not sure if it’s a normal thing but last weekend I was considering a new in-house myself, but found all the hands moved when I went to adjust the minute hand. Now I’ve seen this happen where an hour hand can jiggle a bit when moving the minute hand, but even the seconds hand did it. All three watches I checked did this.

Yup. As does the LHD.CGSshorty wrote:The blue still sucks.
2 liner will always be the best one but wall o’ text black over the other two if you want the in-house

Re: Been thinking of finally trying a Pelagos
I'm certainly not against the black. Can't go wrong with it vs. the blue.
Not a fan of the T1 or T2 design but love the blue. Wish it was the blue used for Tudor.
Now I just have to push myself enough to list the IWC. Again.
Ed,
My collection after selling the XVIII would be:
Dornbluth 99.1 (silver, blue numerals)
3570.50
Yellow Pogue
1000m Golden Tuna
Blue dial Nighthawk
Speedy covers the black dial for sure. Damn I wish I could see the blue in person.

Re: Been thinking of finally trying a Pelagos
The blue one imho would be better if it was a little darker. I thought I hated the LHD until I saw it in person. Looked at all 4(the two liner was in the estate case) and walked out with the LHD. If you can get to an AD to see them in person. That way you will know for sure.
Re: Been thinking of finally trying a Pelagos
The blue dial looks much better in person, that being said the black 2 liner is the way to go. #BWITW

I wore a black two liner nearly every day for a year. I feel like if it was a hair thinner it would be the perfect watch.

Totally agree with this.dnslater wrote:I wore a black two liner nearly every day for a year. I feel like if it was a hair thinner it would be the perfect watch.
Re: Been thinking of finally trying a Pelagos
Been wearing the XVIII for nearly three years in rotation with it getting the most time and I really think it is the perfect watch.
It's got dings and a couple rubs but for the most part it's still in great condition as I treat my watches well wearing a beater if I know the day calls for it.
If this were to happen it would need to be a trade because I'd likely take a bath on it even with my IWC deployant and 20mm IWC Nato Buckle currently on an OD Toxic. Plus it might be an easier pitch as you're trading one fantastically engineered bracelet for another.
Maybe I could WU-it-out on a Nato (Milgauss White) and sell the hardware a la carte? Would probably net more that way knowing the bracelet/deployant would sell for $650/$180 with the IWC nato buckle to go with the watch for an easier to swallow price for that Nato lover.
Anyone want to trade for a week or so?

I’ve had the 2 liner, the LHD and I wore the blue for a bit. The 2 liner IMHO is the best version, and the lume is tops. Lumed bezel is amazing. The blue is so much better in person, but definitely not as versatile as the black. The black in-house is just too busy on the dial. Still great though. Bottom line, no matter what, you’re getting an amazing watch, no matter which you go with.

Never had one but the LHD appeals to me the most.

To me, the lines don't make a fish egg difference.. The black is ok and blue reminds me of a Bud Light can..

I kind of the feel the same way about the movement. I do know that I have never look at my 2 liner and think about the movement
Re: Been thinking of finally trying a Pelagos
I’d go two liner with the ETA movement for rarity and cheaper service cost.

I’m in the camp of actually liking the blue. As said, it’s much better in person IMO and I’ve thought about getting one many times. However, I think if I had your collection I’d go for the classic black. It’s just so much more versatile.
