Gift for the wife need opinions.

I want to get a gift for my wife for our 15th anniversary coming up in a few weeks and she doesn't own a proper watch. She's not very flashy very understated doesn't like sort of things that stick out and scream hey look at me. I really would like to get her a nice Rolex something classic that she could wear forever and that would suit Her Style. I'm thinking about this pink 178240 either on the oyster bracelet or the Jubilee. It's 31 mm which I think would be a great size for a woman.

Do you guys think 31mm is the proper size for a woman versus the really small traditional 20 something sized ones? Image

“I want to buy my understated wife who doesn’t care about watches a Rolex”.

Buy her what she likes. Not what you like.

This

You've been married 15 years and haven't figured that out yet

Take her to the AD and let her try on watches and go from there.....if she wants a watch

She actually really likes watches and loves the color pink. She would just never buy herself one. She has seen my datejust 41 and said it's beautiful.

I think it would have to be a bracelet watch. I'm more curious what you guys think of 31mm size for a woman versus traditional smaller sizes.

It depends on her size. 31mm would me too big for my wife. She wears a 28mm I think. The ~24mm, or whatever, version was the small one.

I'd follow RMM's advice, and take a trip to a few ADs to try on a few different styles (thinking of my wife's 25mm small quartz Tank Française vs. the 26mm and 31mm Datejusts).

Is this DWC? 2 hours into the thread and no one asked how big is the girl, what size wrist does she have? :)
Jokes aside I have no idea if 31mm will look good on someone not knowing their build

My wife went from the 26mm to the 31mm and she’s tiny (size reference). The 36mm was too big but the 31mm seems to be the preferred, modern women’s size now...

I like idea of that Rolex-- classic choice. Can have it forever...31MM good size...

Cartier would probably be my only other consideration ( Santos, or Tank).....

31 is the smallest I’d go. My wife is 5’2” and has tiny wrists but now that she has a few 38mm watches she’s sold her <30mm ones because “she can’t read the dial” easily. I’d look at the 34-38 range.

My wife sounds very similar to your wife’s style. She has an Omega Constellation I got her 25 years ago and loves it. I’ve offered Rolex etc... over the years but she’s perfectly content with the Omega. So, my advice...get her what she wants like the other guys have said. Or get her a pool boy

I would ask the wife what size she prefers. I gave my wife several watches that were 36mm and then 32mm but she keeps wearing her 26mm ones, somehow they work best for her. She never told me and I had never asked before but when I inquired why she was not wearing the new watches and kept on her old beat up ones she finally told me that she prefers that size.

31mm is a good size, my wife wears a 31mm Movado and it works, even looks small when compared to modern Michael Kors watches (which she also like). She tried my 38mm Sinn the other day and honestly it looked great on her.

20mm is too small.

I got my wife a DJ with a salmon dial back in 2011. It lasted a few months and she hated it. She said the dial would wash out on in the sun and she couldn't read it. Also she didn't wear it all the time, so she kept having to ask me to set it for her. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10643&p=179157&hili ... st#p179157

So buy her what she wants. Even if it is a quartz, my wife now has a quartz Chanel diver.

I bought my wife an apple watch and she loves it. You can get a pink strap for it if you want.

If she's understated and non-flashy, she may feel uncomfortable wearing a Rolex.

Are you sure she wants an automatic watch. Most women I know prefer quartz.

Yep, years ago I bought a Cartier Tank for my wife. Does not wear it because is an auto and she doesn't have time to set it.

Gave one to my wife for mother's day, she loves it... best watch I've ever given to her (her words).

She does want an Omega Constellation someday, but said it has to be quartz.

Let her pick. You’ll both be happier.

Go classic size and you won’t go wrong.

Here is hers beside mine in Hawaii.

Quartz would be a good call or it's going to run down and won't be worn. Visit the AD.

Give the ladies some credit - my wife has an automatic and a manual wind and they're no problem for her. She thinks quartz is "crap" :)
