Skydweller On Watch Winder
Skydweller On Watch Winder
Rolex experts, I need your assistance. My friend called me this morning asking why his new Skydweller would not stay running on his watch winder. Is there anything special about this movement that would prevent a winder from working correctly? I know it has a long power reserve. Is the winder motor just not strong enough?
In the meantime, I had him give it a full hand wind and wear it exclusively for a few days to make sure the watch is actually auto winding.

It's a fake. Lol kidding. That's odd man. Is it set for rotation in the proper direction as well as the proper number of rotations

Re: Skydweller On Watch Winder
I don’t own one, so I’ve only seen TRF topics that address the issue. Probably have to ensure it is set to a bi-directional winding setting (and totally upright if it’s a vertical winder).
Re: Skydweller On Watch Winder
He said he has tried every setting. I thought maybe it was too heavy for the winder, but it has no problem with either of his DSSDs.
Is the power reserve of the Skydweller longer than other Rolex? Heavier spring, maybe?

Re: Skydweller On Watch Winder
The watch runs fine when it's not on the winder? Power reserve is 72 hours---outside of crown not being screwed down properly (twin lock double), not sure how it wouldn't work

Re: Skydweller On Watch Winder
Does it die if it’s already running when he puts it on the winder? My Daytona takes a decent number of crown turns to get going. I’m not sure a wonder would do it.

He always puts it in the winder running. He rarely wears it more than two days in a row so he’s not sure if it is not winding automatically.JP Chestnut wrote:Does it die if it’s already running when he puts it on the winder? I had him wind it 50 turns and wear it for a week. That should tell us if the mechanism is working correctly.

25-30 winds to get my Sub running and it 6 yrs since it's last service...Have a buddy who works in the industry says he never has heard anything special about Skydwellers and winders..something isn't right...
Re: Skydweller On Watch Winder
Thanks, Mike. I’ll update this next week once we know if it continues running when worn.

Definition of first world prob.
My $15000 watch won’t keep time when I’m not wearing it!
Lolz
Really I have zero input. that’s a watch I have never seen in person, would love to check it out

.
By every setting, I assume he's tried every direction, too, right? My Aquadive BS 500 with the Parmigiani-Fleurier movement was going dead on the winder with a directional setting of BOTH. I checked the Orbita Database and every PF movement was listed as CW, but that didn't work either. Finally tried CCW and it worked like a charm.
No, it's not Tourettes.
Re: Skydweller On Watch Winder
I spoke to him yesterday. He said he wound it and it does on his wrist within two days. He was all set to send it to Rolex.
I don’t think he is winding it enough and thinks that it will wind itself up to full power on his wrist.
I told him to give the crown 50 turns and to wear it again. If it still dies it definitely has an issue.

Full winds. Not little quarter turns. On the other hand, if he can’t figure out how to operate a watch, it might be better to let him fend for himself.CGSshorty wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 10:10 pmI spoke to him yesterday. Re: Skydweller On Watch Winder
He can operate a watch just fine and is an incredibly talented contractor. Many people wrongly assume that a winder will do more than maintain properly wound watch.JP Chestnut wrote:Full winds. Update: After giving the watch 55 full turns of the crown, he wore it for three days straight. The watch died on his wrist after 72.5 hours.
Back to Rolex. Hopefully an easy repair.

I’m sure it will be covered. It’s only a few months old and purchased at Mayor’s.
