Thinking of swapping my GMT2C for old school sub

Post by deepcdvr » Wed Sep 27, 2017 3:37 pm

Ok - totally WUS thread, so please put the flame throwers back in their holsters :htfu:

I've had a GMT2C for a while now and have really enjoyed the watch. Lately, I've spent a lot of time in DC where every other dude is wearing a 16610 with the skinny hands, noisy bracelet, hollow links, etc... and I have been secretly jealous. I've owned a couple and even sold one recently (stupid move).

I can't afford to keep the GMT2C and purchase a sub for fun. Plus I'm still chasing the elusive "one watch" that I can wear as my go-to piece. The GMT isn't that watch. Sure it's a great looking piece, smooth as silk, a bit blingy, has an extension link, independent hour hand, etc, but it just isn't the "one".... Most trips, I just leave it at home for fear of banging it up.

Anyway, just blabbing away after a few beers ;). Anyone trade down to 'old school' after having a ceramic hot rod and was happy doing so?

Edit: I'll probably come to my senses and delete this thread after I sober up

I love my older model 16600 just as much as my ceramics, there is something about the older bracelets and clasps... theyre just classic. If someone told me I could only have the older model, I would be just as fine with that. I wear my 16600 diving, to work at the PD and basically anything else, and I dont worry about banging it up. Its a tank! My GMTIIc... Im much more careful

Do it! Even better, get a 16600. Five-digit Rolex watches rule, and the 16600 is my favorite watch, period.

This. I own a 116600 and have been thinking about picking up a 16600 as the "beater". The five digit references have a lot of charm and are built like tanks. The 16600 in particular isn't too bad a value right now compared to other 5D references, although they do seem to be rising a bit...

I can relate. I would want 14060 when I had the 114060.
I’d do the trade if I were you. But for the 16750, the second best Rolex to have IMO.

Lol just came back from a short run - after 4 beers. Didn't puke and was actually hauling a$$ - guess I should drink more? :htfu:

Anyway, all good suggestions. Had both a coke GMT and an SD. I like the sub a bit more than the GMT and although the SD was awesome, it felt a bit top heavy and I will probably need the cyclops before long

I'm going to sleep on it and see what's on the net. I just did a quick recon of sub dates and they are running near 6k + for late models (z,m)... too friggin expensive, imo! I don't even know what mine is worth and I hate wus sales forums

I’ve said it before, but I’d love to see a Rolex “heritage” lineup. They can stay away from Tudor’s faux lume look, but give us the following features:

- 5 digit reference cases w/ lug holes
- old style metal bezel insert
- modern 6 digit movement
- Chromalite lume

Even at the same price as a ceramic I couldn’t give them my money fast enough.

Maybe one day....

Paul-
Ditch the blingy ceramic and get that 16600.

One of my favorite watches ever was my 16800.
Beautiful dial and a bracelet that was the most comfortable I've ever worn. A true one watch.
