Re: Opinions please?
The price is reflective of the caveats mentioned in the ad so if your comfortable with those then absolutely go for it.

Re: Opinions please?
Price is good but dial refinished on a Rolex sub will make it tough to resell. Unless this is a keeper for you.

Re: Opinions please?
Nope. Apparently other "questions" are being raised. I am starting to get a feeling of a Rob Lauer situation...
Thanks, steering clear.

Re: Opinions please?
That is pretty "cheap" if was only the dial. Now it may be that the only thing "right" is the movement.

Re: Opinions please?
That sucks. Sounds like a hodge-podge. Maybe it is a Ginault with a different dial?

It definitely seems like exactly what Ralaustin (Rob) dealt with. Sickening that these are out there.

I wouldn't touch anything but the absolute best vintage Rolex with real provenance. Too many people trying to make a quick buck.

Re: Opinions please?
He's pretty blatant. Even many of the "good guys" are pumping a market filled with dumb rich guys. I was talking to someone from the EU who bought a stack of those "blueberry" inserts about 10 years ago. He paid around $100 each, sold them privately a few years ago for $2000, and now the big time dealers are sticking them on GMTs and charging $30,000:toxicavenger wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2017 10:57 amwhy you bring NBtimes into this????JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2017 10:56 amI wouldn't touch anything but the absolute best vintage Rolex with real provenance. Apparently there are all brown ones too, which haven't yet hit the open market.

That is worse than the guys lining up the crown and taking pics for watches they are selling.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2017 11:01 amHe's pretty blatant. So how does a watch with such a great looking bevels have so much rot in between the lugs???

Re: Opinions please?
Hard to know where to buy a decent vintage Rolex anymore...
Re: Opinions please?
Vintage market is full of fraud these days. A friend with a pawn shop who has a laser welder and did a couple of case repairs (fill in huge gouges, redo the bevels and refinish the cases) only to see the guy who had them done put them in a rock tumbler (or similar) to mimic years of wear and then reassemble the watches to sell them as "original, unpolished" Subs. He now refuses to do repairs like that unless he knows it's for an individual rather than "trusted" resellers.

Re: Opinions please?
Scary shit.
I think the future vintage watches I'll own are the ones that I bought new or almost new in the present

Someone will open an authentication business and many people will suffer. Laser welding can be detected via existing imaging technology. Nobody wants to know.
Re: Opinions please?
Glad I scratched the vintage Rolex itch a few years ago. Would hate to be in the market now.
