Winding issue on GMT2C
Winding issue on GMT2C
Quick diagnosis and advice, please since I'm not a WIS.
I have a GMT2C that keeps time at +4 and I absolutely love the watch. A little shake starts her right up after she's been down a while. The problem is that when i turn the crown to wind the watch, i can feel it winding for about 10 turns, then it "disengages" -and the watch does not start up on its own. If I shake it a little and set it down, it starts up and runs for a few hours then quits.
If I wind the watch simply by shaking it for a minute or two or wear it around for a few hours, it will run for 40+ hours on my nightstand crown up, keeping great time
So - three quick questions
1, what's wrong with the watch?
2, who can fix it (not sending it to Rolex due to turn around time)
3, should I just forget crown winding and just shake it and wear it, i.e. Suck it up?
Thanks!

Throw it away and get a new one. Take the write off.

Sounds like your crown is disengaging. If you want my guy to look at it then let me know.

Thanks T - I'll let you know
Anyone have any idea why the crown would 'disengage' until the watch was fully wound? From a purely mechanical perspective, this doesn't make sense to me (again, I'm not a WIS).

Maybe the stem is slipping out of the movement enough that is stops winding it? I am not wis either, so my knowledge is very small.

Sounds rather odd, sorry don't have a diagnosis. But I can tell you about the only thing I don't like about mine (I have the same watch) is I've found the crown positions to be a PITA - hard to move into positions easily and occasionally they have slipped from one to another (like from an outer position to an inner one - not the other way). Sorry I can't be of more help and good luck!

I have had that before on a GMT, it was almost like they were micro adjustments, and I kept missing the correct one.hidden by leaves wrote:Sounds rather odd, sorry don't have a diagnosis.
