Urgent advice needed re Air King 5504
Urgent advice needed re Air King 5504
Gents,
I am selling a bunch of watches locally tomorrow and my vintage Air King might be sold as well. It's a 5504 model from 1958-1960 and has the 1530 movement. I have posted pics of it before and some may remember it has 2 out of line markers (6 and 9). It's been over-polished and most of the engraved numbers are unreadable. However, it runs very well and today I had the caseback opened at a watch dealer (I don't have the tool myself) and it looked very clean and had indeed the correct 1530 movement. Today after a Google search I found out that the movement is quite sought after as it is also used in the 5512 and 5513, which makes it I think quite valuable. I gave the buyer an indication of what I had in mind to get for the watch, which was around 2k, but I know doubt if that is a good price (for me..). Please have a look at the pictures, note that the bracelet is not original to the watch, and tell me what you think I should ask for it. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Sorry for the crappy pics of the movement, difficult lighting in the shop and in a hurry as well...
PS I became a member on TRF a few days ago but got no help there yet....being a newbie and all maybe.

Have you tried the vintage forum on TRF? Those guys are usually pretty helpful.

Bummer. I'd bump your post there. Wish I could help, but my Air King knowledge is nada.

I think it's more "nobody is in to the AKs", rather than "eat shit noob". I can't help you accurately, except to say it's not an in demand reference AFAIK. Given that caveat, $2,000 sounds fair to me.Marjak wrote:Yes, that's where I posted this...

Thanks Jacob, that's what I thought as well... re the value of the AK I mean.

Actually, something you could do - search the reference number on Chrono24 and see what people are asking. I find Rolex prices to be too high on that 'site, but it should give you a decent upper bound on the ask.Marjak wrote:Thanks Jacob, that's what I thought as well... re the value of the AK I mean.

I did that and saw prices around 2.5 to 3 k with some lower and some higher. I figured that mine with the ugly 6 and 9 markers should then be about 2k....

Sounds like you know as much as anyone. Maybe take $1,850 if you want it gone.Marjak wrote:I did that and saw prices around 2.5 to 3 k with some lower and some higher. I figured that mine with the ugly 6 and 9 markers should then be about 2k....

Yeah...I am also selling him a Breitling Hercules, a Tuna 007, and maybe 2 or 3 more so that makes it easier to work towards a package deal that I can live with.
Thanks Jacob
