Talk me into or out of this one
Been missing my Milgauss GV a lot lately. It was such a cool watch with just the right amount of color even though a bit of a scratch magnet.
Problem is the SDc would need to leave the stable. On a positive note I'd net a little bit of money
As of now I own the following:
116600
Dornbluth 99.1
3570.50
6139-6005 Pogue
SBBN015
Current SDc:
Old Pictures (back when I had the Exp42 - 9/11 tribute):

your crazy, unless you want a smaller flatter laying laying watch.

Re: Talk me into or out of this one
I wouldn't do it, but the Milgauss has never done anything for me. Also, I would think the SD would be a better watch to wear in the kitchen, given its scratch resistant bezel (and you can use it to time things). It's just a far better looking watch IMO.
Re: Talk me into or out of this one
The SD might be a better Rolex model overall, however it is also one very common watch. Of course one might like that. But taking another view to this, and since you actually like it, one could also think that the Milgauss is more "uncommon", still a Rolex and pretty nice looking. I have no idea of the prices but I believe that the SD is worth more then the Milgauss, maybe with a little extra cash added to the sale of the SD, you could get the Milgauss and then another Rolex Diver, or Tudor if you like that brand.

Re: Talk me into or out of this one
I personally would do it, but the Milgauss GV is my grail watch and I really want one.
I guess one is toolish, other is dressy - it depends on how you want to balance your collection. If you lose the SDc the Tuna would be your primary dive watch.

Re: Talk me into or out of this one
You'll miss the SDc. Just sayin'.
only accurate watches are interesting
Re: Talk me into or out of this one
I love the Milgauss, and the quirkiness of the watch would really do it for me, even over the 116600.
However, I don't think that would be the case for the majority of people. I'd say keep the SD-C

If you were talking about the white dial I'd still say "no" but it would be close. That green version does absolutely nothing for me.
Re: Talk me into or out of this one
Thanks fellas. I'm keeping it (for now)
I had recently purchased the Pogue for that color splash I was craving and had a lot of fun hunting one down, so will try that again with another colorful vintage Seiko.

I was thinking maybe for the new Blue Milgauss, I like that one....it would add color but then I read that's what the Pogue is for.

I've only seen that watch once, but I thought it was revolting.rockmastermike wrote:I was thinking maybe for the new Blue Milgauss, I like that one....it would add color but then I read that's what the Pogue is for.
Re: Talk me into or out of this one
The z-blue is a little too light for my taste. I prefer the GV with the Orange 3,6,9 and green crystal.

Darin is selling a Milgauss GV for a good price if you change your mind.

Good call! The SD4K (I'm trademarking that name) is my grail. Also, I saw the MGGV (yep, trademark as well) and I thought is was really blingy.sierra11b wrote:Thanks fellas. I'm keeping it (for now)

i would agree that if there's only room for one, a SD/SDc would be the keeper for most people.
it wouldn't be a mistake if you did get the Milgauss, but think long and hard before you do though.

Re: Talk me into or out of this one
Understandable. I've had the 116600 since it came out, and I'm not wearing it all that much.
The Sea-Dweller, though quality, is a bit cold and monochromatic. That date window looks a bit forlorn without a Cyclops, too. I ain't a saturation diver, so the 1200 m of water resistance seems a bit much. I do like the watch, but I almost always end up picking something different.
That's why I've decided to get rid of the Sea-Dweller since the white Explorer II 216570 came in. I don't need them both, and for me, the Exp II supersedes the SD for when I want to wear a modern sports Rolex. The slimmer case with the matte white dial and black surrounds is less sterile, and just suits me better. I find the Milgauss is a bit too shiny for frequent wear, but it's still pretty groovy. I get wanting a bit of colour.
Comparison photo with a friend's 1680:
If you haven't tried the white Explorer II, it might be worth looking at for something different, and it has a splash of orange like the Milgauss. I think it would work well as an only Rolex. Could be worth checking out the new OPs, too; I wear the 36 mm version more than my Daytona, in large part because it's all-brushed. The 39 mm version shares the same size dial and crystal with the Milgauss, but in a slimmer and de-shine-ified package.

Re: Talk me into or out of this one
You people are crazy. The Sea-Dweller line, including the 116600, is the crown jewel of Rolex sport watches. I have a strong need to own one, but just don't have the disposable income. These will just have to hold me over:

Crapatalk strikes again...
Re: Talk me into or out of this one
Keep the SubC, its a classic. The Milgauss is like brussel sprouts, you either love it or hate it. Not much middle ground.
Re: Talk me into or out of this one
this hobby is all subjective. one man's meat is another man's poison......sometimes, we forget that.
if someone decides to sell their SD/Sub and get a Polar Exp or Milgauss instead, then go ahead. there's no right or wrong aspect of it. just think long and hard before you do because going back might mean more $$$ if you do.

i see that the OP has posted the SDc to sell and is going for the Milgauss GV. as iconic and classic as the SD is, when you've got the itch, sometimes you've got to scratch it.

Re: Talk me into or out of this one
The GV should be back in my hands tomorrow morning and I'm very excited about it. What's funny is my newly acquired $400 pogue with similar hands reminded me how I've grown a little tired of the mercedes handset over the years.
Even sourced some aftermarket strap Milgauss endlinks from a TRF member doing great things with a CNC machine just because I know down the road it may be fun to procure some straps even with me being a bracelet kinda guy. Plus you never know when talented sources like this might dry-up.
I'd concede to anyone who thought the 116600 was a better all around watch, but with someone like me who gives the 3570.50 a ton a wrist time and who doesn't dive, it's nice to have this flavor back in rotation. I left out a Rhodium Dial DJ and Vintage Constellation from my collection my wife wears so this will give me a well rounded collection I think.
Outside of the Daytona which I've never owned, I've owned almost every single non-PM sports rolex (except the DSSD & BLNR) before you get into vintage models -- and I've owned a few vintage too (1675, 16750, 1680). There's a ton commendable models I'd love to have back, but the 16710 and 116400GV were my absolute modern favorites (3rd being the 216570). Thing is I've never had a stickered Rolex in my name, and 16710 prices are getting ridiculous and all over the place thanks to the WG Pepsi, so this will be a special incoming for me.
Can't have them all, unfortunately...
