Rolex Extends Warranty to 5 Years

Post by rockmastermike » Wed Jun 24, 2015 11:00 am

Pinched this from TZ Link: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t= ... sg_7048757

Beginning 1 July 2015, the Rolex International Warranty will more than double from its current 2-year warranty to a 5-year warranty from the date of purchase. Retroactive for all watches sold between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2015, the Rolex International Warranty is extended for an additional one year for a total of a 3-year warranty. Designed for longevity, Rolex has an extensive network of authorised retailers and service centers in over 100 countries around the world.

This unprecedented move by the Swiss watchmaker is a game changer, and sets a new industry standard for luxury watches.

I saw this. Unfortunately, I saw it 2 days after I purchased my new Sub earlier this month. Ah well...

Warranties are an easy gift. Statistically speaking, if it doesn't fail in the first year, the numbers are low where warranty work is submitted. We've done quite a bit of analysis, and where my industry often carries one, we carry three and will offer 5 and even 10 to important clients. Much ado about nothing to be honest......but it can make the buyer "feel" good.

Don't think so. I believe at least Breitling warrantied their new in-house chronometer movement for five years from the get go.

Except if your name happens to not be on the card and you go to RSC NYC even if it's under warranty. At least in my personal experience.

Long overdue. As a "Rolex guy" I'm thankful that Omega offers a four year warranty.

Did you just add a year warranty to both of my Rolex watches (purchased in 2014)? Damn.. I love you RMM. Thank you for the post.

My Sub was purchased new 5/13 so it's not getting the extra year, but I believe the service it received 12/14 gives it two years from that date. Does anyone know for sure?

I don't think that's correct thinking when it comes to mechanical watches. A simple hard bump can knock a watch off time and Rolex, historically at least, has been more than happy to regulate for free in the warranty period. It's not a huge deal, but it's a nice bit of added security.

It makes me wonder how Rolex sees their sales trajectory.

I found this industry study interesting n terms of trends and projected sales. Note that quartz sales are down likely due to increased phone usage.
