No more Rolex (drama kept to a minimum)
I sold my SubC about 2 weeks ago.
Rolex are the only watches I've owned that make me uncomfortable to wear.
Each time I wore it, I dreaded that "moment"...
Someone says how can you afford such an expensive watch!?
Which I can, but if my wife happens to realize the cost, it would just make things uncomfortable.
Easier to sell and have peace of mind wearing my other watches.

Just tell them it's a fake.

I'd think she would be more upset that you wear her underwear....
Re: No more Rolex (drama kept to a minimum)
I guess I'm lucky since I'm around people that mostly know nothing about watches, or at least never say anything. And really, it's none of their business anyway. If I'm asked it's always a "submariner", after which I usually get "nice" and that's the end of it.
I flipped for many years before biting the bullet. Now that I've worn it near daily for almost two years I can't imagine not having it.
My fiancé has no idea what a Rolex costs or really even cares, guess I'm lucky there as well.
I get what you're saying, though...

Interesting. I have NEVER worn my 214270 or 114060 to to my day job. I do worry about what my team would think.
I wear my "work" watches (Squale, Seiko, Hamilton). My side gigs fund vacations, date night, and watches.

I'd never wear a Rolex around my parents. It's probably the only brand they would know was expensive. My wife doesn't care at all.

I hear ha. It never ceases to amaze me that you can wear a Blancpain, GO, etc. that cost twice as much, and no one ever batts an eye. I suppose that's the downside of the Rolex marketing juggernaut.
Re: No more Rolex (drama kept to a minimum)
I understand the sentiment. I will, however, wear any Rolexes you guys don't feel comfortable wearing

Same reason my dad won't wear his around clients. He'll wear it to meetings with the owners but never with any clients or at their plants. Smart man.CGSshorty wrote:I'd never wear a Rolex around my parents. It's probably the only brand they would know was expensive. My wife doesn't care at all.

Just go vintage. That way if any one asks you can say 'it's a Rolex but it's like 40 years old and all faded. Can't afford a new one.'
But understand the feeling. Always felt better wearing the Tudor subs I've owned when in front of clients.

I think you guys are giving the masses way too much credit for noticing...while nearly everyone knows Rolex, the same number with have or know someone who has a Rolex they bought on Canal St.

Just tired of worrying about it.
Re: No more Rolex (drama kept to a minimum)
Didn't you buy it second hand cheap in the jewelry district? They lose value fast like a Beemer right? And there's the 'local' versions sold in the Philippines that run about $100. Even GMT!

Why worry if it's a beautiful watch and you enjoy it?mattcantwin wrote:

Although I never fully cared, I see your point having owned 9 over the years... This is partially why I flipped the flashy 116613 for the all SS, no cyclops 116600. I don't think anyone will know what it is.
Unless your client, father-in-law, or asshole pawnshop employee cousin is sitting to your left at the dinner table and notices it's a rolex, most people associate Rolex with granddad's DJ or DD with champagne dial.
