14060 from HQMilton

Post by okinana » Wed May 13, 2015 4:22 pm

Hi everyone. I am eyeing the new 14060 on HQMilton. How much does he usually go below their asking?

http://www.hqmilton.com/watches/1999-ro ... nd-papers2

Is there a DWC discount?

Thanks.

They'll usually go about 10% under the asking price. You'll notice that the forum post price is usually $100 lower than the website price also.

Great guys to deal with.

I like that particular watch. It's definitely been polished but not too poorly or too often.

How can you tell that it has been polished? They usually say if the watch has been polished. This particular one, they did not say.

Thanks.

I own a few Rolex models from this era and the finish is slightly off in comparison. The clasp is clearly not untouched, since the crown lacks a bit of crispness. It's not bad - I'd own it and I'm super picky.

Should I hold off then? There is another one on sale that I saw in watchrecon from watchexplorer (San Diego).

That second one looks cleaner to me, though it could be the pictures, but the clasp on that one has been heavily polished. Way more so than Jacek's watch. I'm probably the worst person to ask though - I can't stand all the bullshit surrounding used Rolex watches, so I only purchase examples that are verifiably unpolished (and I pay out the ass for them).

One other thing to consider is how important box and papers are to you. This one has them, and that usually jacks up the price some.

I thought the Jacek watch was fairly reasonably priced considering that the condition was good (so many are crap these days), it had B&P, and it was from a dealer.

I was initially gungho for it. I don't know if I should still go for it.

I am definitely a noob when it comes to watches, especially Rolexes or other expensive brands.

Polished? Unpolished? All of a sudden don't know what I am comfortable buying.

I need all the inputs I can get.

I'd buy the one from HQM no worries. Very good condition and fair price.

The one from SD Watches looks good, too.

The watch looks pretty good. Definitely not over polished. The lugs look thick. The crown guards looks fine.

HQ Milton prices pretty reasonably. They also have a 3 day return policy, so if you get it and aren't happy, just send it back.

What do you think about the particular watch I am looking at?

Can you say something about the bezel? There seems to be some oil or something on the bezel around/close to the crystal.

I don't see any oil on the bezel, but I'm on my phone right now, so I could be missing a detail. You could always call Jacek at HQM and ask.

Looks like some discoloration/wear on the bezel insert. These aluminum bezel inserts aren't the toughest things in the world. Part of the reason Rolex switched to ceramic. They will wear and discolor. Nothing unusual. Relatively cheap to swap in a new one (DIY or at the Rolex dealer) if you want. Jacek may even do it for you before he sends it to you (for a fee).

If Jacob would buy it, that speaks volumes about its condition.

Wait wait wait- you want to buy unpolished? Good luck. You admitted that you can't even tell by yourself.
Buying a super clean example like the one Jacek has is your best bet.

Nope. Did not exactly say I want to buy unpolished. I admit, I am no expert. I actually have no clue what to look for. All I know is I want a 14060. That is why I am asking for everyone else's opinion. I need all your help and guidance.

Well defiantly don't be scared of this one. It's a winner at a good price.

What can you say about the bezel insert? Do I even have to worry about it? Does the watch need to be pressure tested? I read another post which said it can be pressure tested if requested from Jacek.

Thanks BBK357.

If you are looking for a used 14060 it will be difficult to find a more reputable seller than Jacek outside of DWC.

Is this particular watch a good one to buy or should I wait for another to come by at hqmilton?

I know 14060s are quick to go in their website. I hope it will still be there tomorrow.

By the way, I saw this one on watchrecon:

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f30/fs-rol ... 85154.html

What do you guys think?

A Pepsi is also one of my choices but almost all are over $5000. This one is even cheaper than the 14060 I am looking at.

Bottom line: you will not find a more reputable dealer than Jacek / HQ Milton.

If you want a 14060, this is a fine one to get. But it was sold for a long time in high volume, so there are plenty out there to buy. If you're nervous about buying a used Rolex, going the dealer route like with HQ Milton is much safer than a private deal.

As for the bezel, it's likely something you'll need to see in person to decide if it bothers you. Again, the bezel insert is relatively cheap and easy to replace.

The 14060(M) is a pretty recent model, so most of them will be in decent shape. If you're going to take it in water, then you should pressure test the watch, but that's true of any used watch over a few years old.

Overall, if you don't feel comfortable buying a watch from HQ Milton, then I'd argue that you're simply not ready to get a used Rolex.
