ANOTHER Rolex help thread

Post by hoppyjr » Sun Dec 07, 2014 2:20 pm

I've owned both, except I had the white dial Exp II. I'm serious when I say get the Sub 114060. It is literally the perfect do-it-all Rolex, within the current lineup. I loved my Polar 216570, but it's better suited to a 2nd or 3rd Rolex position. As for GMT, they are nice enough (and I'd ONLY go Rolex GMT) but unless you travel constantly, like a road warrior or pilot, it's not that big a deal to adjust the time. Frankly, I owned a GMT and GMT-c when I travelled about half he month and the novelty wore off pretty fast.

I've gone through more watches than I care to remember, but if I would have started with the 114060 I may have just stayed there. Mine is at the RSC right now (cosmetic issues) but I don't see it leaving. Just do it!

Why is the new Exp, so disliked? It seems like theres a lot of good stuff.
It's not disliked; the Sub-C is just that good.

Makes since! :salute:

You've narrowed it down to two great watches. Go for aesthetics only and you cannot be wrong.

Things you need to consider with the 216570: The easy link is the glidelock's practical cousin. I own both and they really work about the same on necessary adjustment when needed. I find I don't adjust the glidelock as often as I had thought I would and the easy link is... well... easy.

The other thing: The metal bezel won't crack should the unthinkable happen. An unlikely scenario but if it should happen with the 114060 you'll be set back.

I do think the 3187 is a slightly superior movement but it's a wash really... I will also say they both wear similarly as the Exp42 lacks the added lug meat which creates a slightly more cumbersome wear with the sub... The difference, however, is very negotiable given the 2mm difference.

You dive and I don't anymore... But the old Soldier in me likes to know north with the GMT hand. YMMV

The moral of the story: Flip a coin and enjoy!

They just don't have it. The previous model didn't either. The one thing it does have is better lug taper than the SubC. If the SubC had that case, I would have kept one.

I appreciate your input. Those are good points.

I will be headed to the AD tomorrow. I'll have to pay attention to the lugs. It's been a few weeks since I tried them on.

You can see it in the pics you posted. Even the new SD has better lug symmetry. The ND lugs remind me of a Helson; bugged me a lot.

Congrats Justin, great looking watch. I have a 216750 and a 16610, both great watches, if I had to choose one it would be the sub, even though it is the old style.

Awesome! I love the 114060's inky black dial in all it's symmetrical glory. On occasion I've thought about flipping my 116613LB for it and pocketing the change.
