Checked out the 116600 this week

Post by dukerules » Sat Sep 06, 2014 5:07 am

And I like it. A lot. But while I love the satin dial, it seemed a bit off with the ceramic bezel. Maybe it was just the lighting in the store. The fully-indexed bezel and the slimmer lugs are cool. Just not cool enough for me to flip my 114060 and a big wad of cash for, though.

I have expressed the same opinion before.
And it's too thick for its smallish size.

For me the bezel is too busy and frankly I love my ND SubC more...i personally wouldn't get one as long as I have the subC

Yup, great watch but I like the dimensions and thickness of the no date more.

I loved it when I tried it on. If I had the funds to own both, I would. I wouldn't flip the subc to buy one though.

I just can't see myself flipping my Sub C and ponying up an extra $2,000 - $2,500 for this, especially since I already have a 16600.

Cool looking watch though.

I think store lights do most watches a huge disservice.

What's with those ticks? Some 4, some 3? Some of the 4s are smaller too

Enhanced bezel marking for the first 15 (or 20) minutes is pretty standard.
Since the "10" is narrower than the other numbers they can also fit all of the marks on.

But no chamfers, so naturally you're thrown off by the whole thing. ;)

After the "55" there's 4 marks again.
You're right, foo. No chamfers to balance the whole thing.

Although I like the date without cyclops, I'll stick with the Sub-C.

That watch wears so small it is ridiculous.

I agree with you 150% ;)
I went to try it on with my SubC on to compare them. While it's a very nice watch, no doubt, I would not sell my subC and add 3/4k for a SDc. Dial and bezel just work well enough together. I'd have done a matte ceramic bezel maybe like the Pelagos or NSA
And I know it's a diver and all, but the minute tick marks around the bezel make it too busy for my taste though that in itself wouldn't be a show stopper.
Side by side the subC won for me especially taking the price in consideration.
I'd rather keep my subC and get another SD personally

I think it's a great watch, but can't get my head around the cost.

100%. Jewelry stores want the diamonds and such to pop with the harsh lighting, but it destroys the watch side of the store. I've often wondered why stores don't have different lighting based on gemstones vs. watches.

I think the new SD fixes a lot of problems that I have with the SubC, especially the thickness of the lugs. The matte dial is just the icing on the cake.

I posted this before but I figured this is a good example that it's not just the jewelry store like ghts. IMHO SubC looks better

I'd prefer the 114060, but with a matte dial.

Since I just flipped mine, here's the skinny. The size wasn't as big an issue as I thought it would be, but with the overall case thickness, a 42mm case would be much better proportioned. Love the thinner lugs, and the bezel is amazing IRL. What absolutely killed it for me was the TAPERED bracelet, which is way too skinny for a watch that substantial. My dos pesos, mi amigo.

Its a really great time to be in the Rolex market. There are 7 different Submariner family watches within a few years old to choose from, each with a separate personality: 14060, 16610, 16600, 114060, 116610, 116600, and 116660!
