SubC 12 O'clock marker fell off.

Post by ScottoLaw » Mon Feb 17, 2014 9:59 am

The 12 O'clock luminious blip on my 4 year old SubC date recently "fell off" the bezel. Not sure how it happened. Had any member experienced this issue? If so, what was done to remedy it? I am hoping to avoid Rolex requiring me to foot the bill for a new bezel in order to have a marker again. Although, I suppose a full service may be in order. Thx for any advice and help.

Scott

That blows. A new Sub does not need a service at 4 years.
Contact Jack at IWW. He should be able to fix the pip cheaply.
I think Rolex's position is clear, and they will not buy you dinner first or use KY.

This sucks, but Nick is right that Rolex will require the full meal deal.

Did you accidentally knock it off or it literally fell off?
Hope it won't happen to mine

I don't think your subF is due for service at all.
I also doubt that Rolex will fix it but will want to replace the bezel. I suppose it's the drawback of having the newer Rolex vs the older version with cheap inserts.
I'd try Jack or someone local you trust to put it back on before sending it to Rolex.

First I've heard of that happening. Sucks. If you still have the pip, I'd definitely see about getting it reattached.

I do find it interesting that the pip on the SubC and DSSD is not as recessed as it was on the older sub and SD models. Might make it easier to bang it into something and dislodge it.

I bet you wouldn't have this problem with an Orient. Also, Rolex will make you purchase a $$$ replacement bezel - have to love progress.

I've seen a few posts about this on TRF - it's not super uncommon and it's an expensive fix.

It's gonna cost you. How much? Not sure, but I've heard these ceramic bezels are in the $1K neighborhood. I'd honestly just wait to replace the bezel until the watch was due for a service.

No idea how the blip came off or where it is. I dont recall knocking it on anything. It doesnt look horrible without it. I'd say the average person would not even notice it missing. So for now, I may just wait until a service is needed. I've had subs serviced at the RSC NY before so I am certain I'd be required to buy a new bezel. BOHICA.

Post a photo. Is there a "hole" in its place? Probably going to get flamed but in the interim before getting it service could you fill it with a quality lume paint? Probably sacrilege for suggesting it on a Rolex. I just lost the Lume pip infill on my aftermarket tuna insert and found some high quality paint online. Kit comes with a dry pigment and a binder that you mix. Looks like BGW9.

J/k. Don't know if it would be worth the effort, though.

Seems like the ceramic bezels have brought a whole new layer of expense to an already expensive product.

Don't forget the clasps too - a clasp and a bezel replacement would get you shockingly close to the last MSRP of a 14060M

LOL, not to continue this silly charade, obviously SubC is a better watch than OS300. But, the pip is recessed deeper on OS bezel than on DSSD :)

Sorry to hear it fell off. I can't believe rolex makes you replace an entire bezel. That sucks. Well, actually, I'd expect nothing less than from rolex. I'd certainly try an aftermarket repair option like jack. Your us may not need service for a long time still depending on how it's running.

Oh, and knock it off with that Orient cramp. :)

Aluminum bezels FTW!

You don't still have the pip, do you? Maybe by an aftermarket bezel, take off its pip and glue it into your bezel?

Rolex NY quoted me 255usd for a new ceramic bezel. Then as she is giving me the information to mail the watch back she says, oooooooh I am so sorry it's 375usd. Haha thanks lady lol. Will have to think about this a while. I see aftermarket bezels on ebay for a hundred but not sure I want to go that route.
