New GMT for Basel 2013? edit: GMT/Daytona/YM II/DD
From their site...
...as well as Philipp Stahl's blog...
...it certainly looks like there might be. There's been talk for years of Rolex working on getting the red and blue bezel to work in ceramic, as their patent applications seem to suggest.
I truly hope they don't stuff up the GMT by making it 42 mm, but we'll find out tomorrow. That 21 mm bracelet has me concerned that they're going to make the watch even bigger. Could be for a steel YM II, though. In which case, who gives a shit?
I'd be surprised if they didn't do some major revision to the Daytona for its 50th. I'm not optimistic that it's going to be an improvement, however.

Re: New GMT for Basel 2013?
in the first pic, the bezel has teeth... i'm assuming it's for a rotatable bezel.
Re: New GMT for Basel 2013?
Yep — that and the polished centre links are why I'm thinking GMT. Blue Sub is the only other white-metal one with PCLs, brushed lugs and that style of bezel, but it's extremely unlikely they're going to update it this year. YM IIs have polished lugs, but this could be some revision in steel. While they really should de-bling-ify that one, it's not a watch that interests me.
It's safe to assume it's not the new Daytona in the photo.

Interesting; guess we'll see. I just can't get past the polished center links on the bracelets of any of their models. Doesn't do it for me.
Re: New GMT for Basel 2013?
Me neither, although I don't mind them on the current Daytona and Milgauss, and it's pretty much what you expect on the DJs and DDs. I vastly prefer when they're brushed on the GMT, however.

Invicta homage?
Re: New GMT for Basel 2013?
Phillip Stahl (Rolex Passion Report) seems to be betting on a new Yachtmaster or Yachtmaster II. I'm never sure whether he has inside information or if he's just really into Rolex. Also, as I don't think English is his first language, I sometimes find his posts difficult to follow. However, he takes some great pictures and has access to folks with truly stunning Rolex collections. It's a fun blog if you're into Rolex; recommend checking it out.
Re: New GMT for Basel 2013?
I can't wait to see what this is. My guess is a 42mm YM or GMT. I'd be surprised, happily, if the GMT has a bicolor ceramic bezel.

Press Release: Rolex releases new McMansion-Dweller model
April 24, Basel, Switzerland
Rolex SA, former producer of semi-tasteful watches, has just announced a model which is expected to do well with in the economically important demographic of oversized suburbanites.
The new McMansion-Dweller is expected to help satisfy the market's demand for a watch that's suited to the challenges faced by today's oversized consumer. Not only does it incorporate an advanced 905L steel (over 50% more resistant to buffalo-wing and BBQ sauces), but it also features an imposing 45 mm diameter for easy legibility even when vision is diminished by shortness of breath brought on by cramming in those last few handfuls of nachos. The increased surface area allows for extra bling, which is useful in attracting the attention of chain-restaurant and sports-bar staff at the local strip mall, and confirming one's status as a true baller when the luxury SUV is out of view.
The announcement is not entirely surprising, given their history of releasing ever-shinier and -larger versions, but the new McMansion dweller breaks new ground in the race to capture the fleeting attention of the modern energy-drink-addled imagination. Chet McClusky, marketing manager of Rolex's expanding-customer division said: "This new watch is both dope and sweet, yet super classy. It's just as awesome for wing night at Hooters as it is for idling in traffic... HEY LOOK, IS THAT A SQUIRREL!?"
Rumours of a younger-consumer-oriented version, tentatively dubbed the "Frat-Master" are as yet unconfirmed.

Re: New GMT for Basel 2013?
Just kidding. They're actually not that bad.
Platinum/ceramic Daytona in 40 mm (niiiiiiice)
GMT II with black/blue bezel and blue GMT hand in steel (WHY NOT BLUE AND RED!?)
Steel YM II (golf clap)
Very relieved that the GMT and the Daytona didn't go bigger in diameter; that bracelet was for the YM II.
Platinum Daytona instantly becomes the ultimate modern Rolex.

That GMTIIc may be my next watch.

Not bad, but not really feeling it...
Re: New GMT for Basel 2013?
I dunno; blue and black is a tough combination to pull off. That darker blue and brown would have been great on the Daytona, though. Or the GMT, for that matter!dukerules wrote:That GMTIIc may be my next watch.

Will need to see it in the metal to know for sure.belligero wrote:I dunno; blue and black is a tough combination to pull off. That darker blue and brown would have been great on the Daytona, though. Or the GMT, for that matter!dukerules wrote:That GMTIIc may be my next watch.
BTW, I'm just not sure about a ceramic pepsi bezel TBH; I'm worried that it would be just a bit too much in ceramic. Although if they nail a more bakelite-type look...well that would be amazing.

Not sure how I feel about the GMT yet... black and blue was their choice??
Why the fuck does the Daytona have a ice blue dial?? If it was white it would have been a stunner.

Let's just say that it could have been worse. No diameter increases is good enough for me.

Hmmm, the black blue one so far looks appealing to me. As stated though I will have to see it in the metal.
cheers,

I bet there is no case/bezel size change. Maxi case 40mm.GGD wrote:I love the black / blue colour combo!!! What size is that?
only accurate watches are interesting

still 40mm - the blue looks like a similar shade as the one in 116619LB.

Re: New GMT for Basel 2013? edit: GMT/Daytona/YM II/DD
I really like the GMT (other than the polished center links on the bracelet). I can see wanting Rolex to offer a pepsi or coke ceramic version, but I think this one stands on its own (I wonder if they're still having trouble coming up with an acceptable red ceramic color).
I like the Daytona, but I'm not sure on the colors. Would want to see more pictures.
Considering the price for a stainless Daytona, I assume the price on this one will be in the 20K - 30K range.
And then there's the YMII...

Looks way more blue than in the press release photos above. I think I'd like it a little more subtle.seizure wrote:link to 19 page brochure for the new models...
