Got bit by the Rolex bug

Post by 425ranger » Sun Jan 24, 2010 11:00 am

I think I may want a R DJ or something....

I've been on a dress watch hunt for some time now.... Those of you who have had a rolex DJ or similar model....

What do you think of it as a dress watch for the money and wrist presence.

Wow, big step. I was trying them on at Lucido's on 19 mile and Scheonherr (they have alot, as much as Tourneau), and i think they are really a nice size. Heavy, but sits well on the wrist.

i say got for it! i love the Silver dial with roman numerals, thats my fave.

Good luck Bill! :salute:

A ss with a silver or black dial and the white gold bezel, cant go wrong with that! You might want to look at the Turnograph aswell, that is a real hidden beauty
I only had the Explorer wich is more or less the same watch without the date window. Loved it, and I will have one again.

The Black or grey dialed version of the Turnograph is on my Need to have list for sure

Give the new cal.8500 aqua terra a look. They look better imo and cost a lot less new.

I would second this... but owning a Rolex is well a "good feeling", so I know the lure of them.

If you really got the bug...

everything else will be nice (and maybe less)...

but, won't be a Rolex.

For a dress watch, the DJ is a classic choice. I wouldn't worry too much about wrist presence for a dress watch - in fact, you probably want it without much presence. You've got some larger watches, so the DJ isn't going to have any wrist presence compared to those.

For the money, I think Rolex is always going to be a good buy. You get a rock solid movement, long company history, and a recognizable brand (if you're into that).

A DJ is permanently on my list for a dress watch. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Just a nice classic dress watch that's still 100M WR..
Has decent presence at 36MM and 44MM lug to lug..

One of the best things about this watch is how it quietly frames every life situation so well (from funerals to Monday Night Football).

Another nice thing is that I never worry about it. One of my more indestructible possessions.

Always thought the only Rolex I'd try to get would be a Seadweller, but this is now the only one I want: (pic stolen from seller Lawrence B. over on Timezone)

Wow Bill, big time piece.

As was already said, I think it's a great piece for dress and everyday use. It can be the 'one' watch.

Can you get to a dealer and try it on before you buy?

You can get DJ's in 40mm now also if size is a concern though I think 36 is fine for most ppl..
I think stick markers, serrated bezel and jubilee bracelet is the hot set-up personally.

You can find plenty of DJ on WUS for some good prices.
I bought a 36mm about a year ago for around $1800.00 great condition.
of course to small for me but it was for a friend.

Love the classic, 36 mm DJ. My personal favorite is the tuxedo dial variant with the smooth, stainless steel bezel, on the oyster bracelet.
