214270 mk1
14270

I grab them both for different reasons…but damn both are the best in the category.

But there is something about the 36 that says “I’m even more versatile and the classic Rolex size.”

There is a reason they brought it back.

Picked this up from the post just today so still honeymooning hard, but man if it isn’t awesome. Ultimate comfort and disappears on the wrist. I had the 39mm in the past and it always just felt off proportionally to me. Based off of the last few hours I’m fully in the 36mm camp.

Am I crazy? What am I missing with this watch?

The most boring and amazing watch…
I love that it’s invisible, comfortable, and beautiful.

Thanks! 6.75-7”. This is by far the smallest watch I’ve worn but I think it works.

I’d rock a 40mm Explorer even though for years i never even considered the Explorer. Let me wanting, just not interesting. But my taste has changed.
But I’ve tried the 36 and it’s too darn small. Looks like I stole it from a kid. A friend was kind enough to let me wear his for a few hours and even that that I couldn’t get used to it. The 40 though is another story. I’d definitely consider is but I think I want a black 16570 more hmmi

As with most Rolex, I think the best version is the early 2000s version, the 114270.
When I start wearing mine, it usually stays on for about a month. The only watches that ever did that for me are:

114270
16570 Explorer II
Tudor Pelagos 39mm
14060M

The more I think of it, the more I lean towards consolidating into a three watch collection of

114270
14060M or Tudor Pelagos 39mm
16710

:+1: I prefer the Pro over a 39mm Explorer or ExpII. Personally just love the big block feel of the case.

Call me crazy but what’s the point of this thread?
You like the Exp? Thats about everyone else in the watch world. Not sure what the confusion is- it’s a “one watch” candidate just like the sub, speedy, and others.

I was pretty sure that my Ranger was gonna be the ultimate field watch - then, I saw the Explorer 40. Then, I started doing research and found the whole history and started studying the faces... Now, Im crazy in love with the watch and and even more crazy in love with this hobby. Just because I haven't mixed my craft with jock strap adds shows Im not quite full blow crazy though. 8-)

I have had three of the old school 36mm versions . I prefer it to the explorer II of which I have had 5 over the years . I didn’t like the larger versions of the explorer. The 36 is just perfect as is . It only seems small for a day or so when worn. My daily is still the DSSD but I have zero issues wearing the 36mm which wears larger than it sounds.

Thanks Nick. You’re one of the many experts have told me the 36 wears awesome. This is a hard decision for me.

I had an OG 36 for about a year. it was awesome and i regret selling (like all my rolex now) but with 7.5" wrists i'd do the 40 in a NY minute as i'm not a big fan of ceramic.

As for the OG 36, if you've ever tried on a modern 36 DJ, it wears similarly but lower profile, and the perception of lug to lug gives it the wrist presence.

I’m still in love with the 39/Mk2. I’d really like to make one of those appear. I think that’s the size for me. My 39 Ranger fits like a dream and is my most worn watch next to my sub.
