Now I just have to work out how to swap it in
How hard could it be

My only suggestion is to put the insert into the ring after the ring is installed. That way you can line it up.

Also don't loose the click spring.

I don't know if your version has a click spring but if it does and you loose it then let me know I have a few extra ones. Good luck bro.

One suggestion is to do it over a shoe box just encase the click spring shoots out, ask me how I know this.

Seriously, a light fabric draped over your head and lamp while you do it is a good idea. Boing!

I put the watch in a large ziplock when taking the bezel off to ensure the spring is enclosed in the bag if it tries to fly away. I learned the hard way, lost it in the carpet halfway across the room once, had to vacuum and then dig through the dust bin...amazingly I found it!

Good luck!

I tried to use a magnet to find mine in my carpet :crybaby: luckily my daughter showed up and found it right away. Then I went to bend it make it firmer and it broke. :puke: So now I have two extra ones.

Ok, so I had a spare few minutes today, so I did the deed.
I am definitely not offering this as any kind of tutorial, as I am no pro and only fumbled my way through it.
I just took a few picks along the way for anyone that is interested:

Bracelet off, tape and tools ready
Image

All taped up
Image

Case knife for prying the bezel off
Image[/url]

Naked, so far so good
Image

I did not lose the click spring. Thanks for the warnings guys. I did however slightly kink the bezel washer when I slipped a bit with the case knife as it popped off. It is very thin and delicate. I managed to straighten it up somewhat before reinstalling
Image

Back of the bezel / insert
Image

Looks great naked. An explorer style bezel would look awesome I think
Image

Insert removed. Washer, click spring and bezel ring reinstalled. Note the GMT click spring is bent over at the end to allow bi-directional movement. Submariners etc are straight to only allow one way movement
Image

Click spring has a little groove that it sits in
Image

Front on, ready to press the new insert in
Image

It is not that easy to tell from the pic, but the old insert was quite faded in the red area, so it looked pale pink. I may decide to put it back on at some stage.
Image

Line it up, and some firm but careful pressure on the insert, and click! all done.
The watch really pops now, and looks brand new.
Image

The bezel rotates the same as before, the insert is aligned properly and it seems all good. As long as it doesn't spontaneously pop off and shoot someone in the eye with the click spring I will be happy

Nice work! I bet you'll want to put the old insert back on at some point. You might even think about leaving it exposed to the sun somewhere to speed up the fading process.

Great job. Another trick I learned is if the click spring keeps falling out when trying to put everything together you can use a dab of white lithium grease to hold it in.

I think a smooth bezel insert like a E1 would look great on that watch.

Congrats again on it.

I was just thinking you should leave it on a window sill.

You guys read my mind
I was going to leave it on a window sill just so it can continue to naturally fade. I don't necessarily want to accelerate the process, just not stop the process either, if that makes sense.

And Ben, I love the fade, but I am digging the hell out of the new insert right now. Looks factory fresh
