Vintage Seiko chronographs

Post by Oracle » Wed Mar 09, 2011 9:18 am

I've been thinking about getting one. I really like the 6138 and 6139. I'd really like to see some other models that DWC'ers have.

I'm looking to buy one like this or similar. I'm not sure if I want a 1 or 2 register dial.

There's a few sellers on Ebay that seem to have a lot of these. One of them is "watchonline09" from the Phillipines. If anyone has any seller recommendations let me know.

Post your vintage Seiko chrono!

Wow, thanks for posting this. It definitely helped me to identify some frankens on Ebay.

Some of the sellers on Ebay list what has been replaced, so you already know that you're getting a "restored" watch with some replacement parts.

Ok, ok.. this sorting is gonna take me at least a couple hours. Let me get up off my ass, put some shorts on and go get 'em. Some just got locked up in my big-ass trailer and the rest are down the street in storage. It's looking like its gonna spit, so better do it now before I have a good excuse not to do this

While I had them out I decided to take a pic of all the chronos, including one that is not vintage, my divers and my two Feikos :banghead: Nothing too glamorous or spendy. My picture taking skills need some improvement

My UFO...6138-0012. Another victim to my Doxa. Bought on ebay from seller Mountapo merchant. Ed is one of the good guys and he even sells direct over on SCWF.

Since the pic, Bob Thayer Jr. redid the watch inside and out, and I put on a new Seiko Oyster style bracelet.

Hey Oracle. The only advice I can give you is to do your homework and do it thoroughly so that you know what you are buying before hand. also try to get a line on people who will repair the movements for you. There aren't many watchmakers who do vintage Japanese chronos any more. If you can't find one, roll into the SCWF watchmaking and tinkering section and ask someone to help you learn.

The phillipines seems to have an endless supply of vintage seikos, but a very large portion of them are chopped up junk, so you really have to do your homework going in so you don't get taken. you might be better off starting by shopping on the forums until you are comfortable enough to hit ebay in search of vintage japanese chronos.
