Quilting Hoop Questions-advice needed
Looking at getting a new set of wooden quilting hoops-since my dog had her way with my old ones turning them into kindling for my long winter nights of needlepointing .
Anyway my old ones were made of a northern red oak-a local species of hardwood. They served me many years and many quilts but since I need new ones is it worth upgrading to a more robust hardwood species?
Couple I'm looking at:
Tennesee Hickory
Northern Minnesota Burr Oak
Right now I'm leaning toward the Burr Oak but I may get a wild hair and go for the Hickory.
Anyway back to my needlepointing and thanks in advance for you input.

I realize this is a bit blasphemous, but have you considered the new titanium hoops? I know they don't have the warmth of the classic hardwoods, but I find my stiching to much more precise.
Please don't flame me, I'm learning more here everyday.

Do they grow Ti locally in your area ? No I didn't think so. Please respect my quilting processes/tools.

Easy Chris, don't be so hard on the noob. It's quite common to be taken in by titanium. It's a common mistake that many noobs make. In time, they grow to respect and even love a quality hardwood quilting hoop. Recently, I purchased a custom set of cedar quilting hoops. I love the smell of cedar. I'll often sit by the fire with a hot toddy, long after I finish my quilting for the evening, simply basking in the aroma of my new cedar quilting hoops.

I think when my stiching skills get to the level you guys have managed, I might be ready for hardwood.

I can accept that. I tend to get a smidge snippy when my techniques or tools are questioned. I'm so GD passionate about quilting that sometimes I bring an M1A1 Abrams to a knife fight.

We are all so passionate around here. Sometimes just overhearing someone disparage the art of quilting actually brings me to tears..

With all due respect to all of the above and considering Chris' passion for tradition, the Burr seems to be the way to go. And the color is to die for.
