DWC Bronze Watch Catalog

Post by giosdad » Wed Feb 01, 2012 7:47 am

With the latest craze being bronze cases (and the fact that I am craving one lately) I would like to have one stop shopping for our members (and yours truly) of the choices.

No hold barred or limit for anything (price, availability, rarity) If it's bronze park (or actually Link it here)

and it does not have to be a current release. As Jay mentioned Anonimo deserves its due for releases bronze cases before the latest craze.

Just so I am not "stufflered" for not using the search function I will post a few contributions.

Re: DWC Bronze Watch Catalog - Olivier wathces

Post by giosdad » Wed Feb 01, 2012 7:49 am

I am wondering what the metallurgists among us can tell us about the different grade of bronze alloys.

EDIT: This is what I found out about Olivier's bronze alloy, this is a plus for me as I want the aging to stay browner than some of the blackish looking aged bronze:

The bronze alloy we are using is CuSn8, a bronze made of copper and tin. This is the same bronze used by Panerai, and Anonimo. Helson does have some watches that use CuSn8, but others that use UNI5275, which is a bronze comprised of copper, tin, lead, aluminum, and other components. CuSn8 was selected by me for two reasons; Anonimo and Panerai use it for their high end models and have done so for some time with no problems. Anonimo has done it for the last 10 years, and panerai had theirs come out this year. The alloy ages very nicely, becoming a deep dark brown. CuSn8 is considered a marine grade alloy, suitable for life in salt water without compromising its structure. Our cases are also German made, German bronze being considered some of the worlds finest.

Olivier provides nice option of dial and movements. Only the black dial is availble in no date version for the multi-date window challenged. ;)

Big kudos for having 24mm lugs for a Panerai-less giosdad.

I am really like this model with the brown dial, but the second hand looks out of place. Price wise this looks strong but I am concerned and need to check the difference between the metals used.

I have added this information regarding the bronze alloy used by Olivier:

The bronze alloy we are using is CuSn8, a bronze made of copper and tin. This is the same bronze used by Panerai, and Anonimo. Helson does have some watches that use CuSn8, but others that use UNI5275, which is a bronze comprised of copper, tin, lead, aluminum, and other components. CuSn8 is considered a marine grade alloy, suitable for life in salt water without compromising its structure. Our cases are also German made, German bronze being considered some of the worlds finest.

Also if this is any indication of the high level CS they aspire to. I contacted them through their website last last night and got an instant response. I asked a follow up question this morning at 05:10 EST (02:10 PST) and got a response 2 minutes later.

Maybe, BUT it sure is nice to have another option other than SS or Ti (not a huge fan of Ti). It is in part a craze because it is new and a refreshing addition to ones SS or Ti collection. And for those, like myself, that not only do not like the look of gold or the cost, bronze is an awesome option. WIS's often say they like autos because the watch has soul or is alive on their wrist, I guess bronze would be the skin as it ages

Now bring on the bronze!

I want to love that one but all the junk on the dial ruins it for me. Beautiful case though.

That Ennebi is the macdaddy of all bronze here!! :-) just stunning. It'd be too big for me unfortunately :(
My favorite so far is the Anonimo so I may get another one down the road. Just the right size and shape for my 7" wrist. I do agree that I'd like it even better with a couple fewer logos on the dial :)
My Bronze Benarus was very well made too but was missing something, just couldn't put my finger in what...

The Ennebi Bronzo is gorgeous. I just love that Cali dial on that one. I wish more companies would use that dial. I have the Olivier with brown dial on order
