Outer AR is a funny thing. The domed crystal on my 5 year old Breitling Seawolf is perfect and never smudges. The flat crystal on my 10 month old Lum-Tec has several scratches and is a smudge magnet like the U1. I guess it is possible there are different quality levels of AR at different price points.
