Round #8: The Dials (U1 > MM)

Post by vbuskirk » Sat Jul 10, 2010 4:13 pm

Other than the occasional chrono, I'm a big fan of simplicity when it comes to dials. A vast expanse of simplicity that draws the eye in. And, for the most part, that is what the Sinn gives. Lots of deep black real estate, accented with a nice amount of white & red, which hypnotizes. The Seiko, on the other hand is a little more busy. The biggest differences are probably due to the contributing effects of the bezel + the specifics of the crystals. The overall effect is much cleaner on the Sinn, IMO.

Round goes to Sinn!

Couldn't agree more...the Sinn dial is what really differentiates itself from
everything else.

Excellent review and comparison Chris.

I totally agree.

I think the U1 stands nearly alone when it comes to simplicity that grabs your attention.

It strikes me as art.

I like both of these dials, but the U1 is just absolutely stunning. You nailed it--the vast expanse of velvety black, with the stark white of the C1 markers, and the red accents...I can stare at that dial for days.

I prefer applied indices over painted dials. Personal preferance but the U1 dial is awesome and one of my favorite non applied dials oot there.

Good point Chris. It's the uniqueness that makes the Sinn face so sweet. But applied markers are sexy, I know the ones on the IWC AT really impressed me and gave the watch an upscale feel.

I agree. Most of my favorite watches have applied indices with arabic numerals. I strongly prefer applied. But, then there's the Sinn. It's friggin magic, I tell ya. That's the only explanation I have.

Funny enough, I'm boxing it up right now. Just sold it. :crybaby: I never even had to advertise it. Without fail, someone writes me about it every month or two, based on the trail of pics I've left over the internet over the last year or so.
