Bremont Solo/WH 43mm

Post by rockmastermike » Wed Feb 19, 2014 8:34 am

Let's get the basics out of the way and then talk about what really makes this watch what it is.

43mm case with 22mm lugs
WR 100M
Domed anti-reflective crystal
COSC certified

Bremont is known for two things, 1) CS and 2) Details. My Solo was running 1+ minute slow per day even after wearing it for a couple of weeks. Still in warranty, I contacted Mike Pearson who put me intouch with Emma and Antonia at HQ....long story short: it is now +2 seconds/day for the last week. Good as new as they say

At first glance the Solo is a standard 3 hand layout that is, in reality, anything but standard. When you look closer, the details appear and the appreciation of the "standard" watch leaps to a higher level. For example:

3-piece case that is hardened to 2000 vickers with DLC barrel

Image

Since we're talking about the case, the lugs are Divine

Image

Polished and Raisedsurrounds on the 3, 6, and 9 markers and the 5-min squares catch and reflect the light to add pop to the dial

Image

The Dial is balanced with the date inside the 3 marker that matches the 9 marker, nice touch

Image

The text on the dial is just what you need, not cluttered and not too sparse as to be boring

Image

The 12:00 Triangle marker is raised, too for more depth

Image

Display back shows a nicely finshed/perlaged movement with Blued Screws and engraved Rotor

Image

Domed anti-reflective crystal blends into the case almost seamlessly. Again note the raised makers and how Bremont balanced the date

Image

Lume is Blue for the Solo and is applied to all numbers, indices and 5-min squares. Above average thru the night, not elite, but not weak either

Image

Put the pieces together and you have a brilliant and tough as nails watch that looks as natural at running errands as it does with slacks and a sweater

I haven't given Bremont much thought since most of their watches are too large for me, but your post does a really good job of highlighting what separates the brand from the mid-level pack. Their attention to detail is fairly unique at their price point.

Thanks, guys - I'll put something together for the ALT1-C later in the same fashion.

Very nice. As you point out, I love the classic, simple, field watch style design, and the attention to detail really seems to put this one at the head of the pack.

Awesome write up. Love me some Bremont. Wouldn't mind another one, but blue SM500 is one I really miss (along with the P-51).

Funny enough, I took the sale pics for my Solo (previously Hoppy's) on my dash in front of a Home Depot also.
