Thoughts on Pelagos
Thoughts on Pelagos
Rather than bore you with a full on review, I thought I would share some observations of the Tudor Pelagos. I picked this up last week, and it has exceeded my expectations. I have liked and wanted one, since it's introduction. Prior to buying this one, I had only seen one other in person.
Pro's
Tangibles:
-case, bracelet, finishing is tops. The bracelet melts into the case, the lines are near perfect/flawless
-Titanium seems to finish in a fine, more refined manner...maybe it's just me
-The clasp is equal to the new Rolex one, plus the addition of the spring...which I don't need or use
-The blue lume is strong. This is one of the brightest watches I have owned, and one of the few with a lumed bezel
-The coin edge bezel is classy
-The crown is beautifully machined, the detail sharp
-The date changes almost at the stroke of midnight...my OCD tendencies appreciate that. My JLC NSA does not, it's frustrating.
Intangibles:
-Some have complained this watch is plain, has no character...I don't see it that way. I see a collision between modern and vintage; classy tribute to the past
-The markers look like big lume plots of yesteryear, because they aren't flat on top.
-The snow flake hands are solid
-The Tudor crest integrated into the clasp closure is subtle
Con's
Tangibles:
-"rotor self-winding" on the dial is goofy
-the crown and stem are a little gritty, but that seems common on the previous Ti watches I have had (JLC being the exception)

Nice review.
"Tudor chest" indicates where his Tudor crest tattoo is. It goes well with the rainbow and unicorn on his lower back.
Nice review Darin, I agree on "rotor self winding" too

Enjoy and I hope the love affair lasts.
Re: Thoughts on Pelagos
Enjoy it. Helluva watch. I've come close so many times, but the NSA has kinda ruined other Ti watches for me.
Re: Thoughts on Pelagos
Congrats on that one Darin ...I've also come very close to buying one

Nice Big D! Now put some lube on those crown threads and see if it will make it smoother. Also try and run some dental floss on the threads if you can.

Good review and nice pics. I hear you on the "Rotor Self Winding" thing, but it's a nod to Tudor's past, so it doesn't bother me that much.
Re: Thoughts on Pelagos
Best watch for the money in my opinion.
After this there's only brand prestige that drives the price higher

Damn, the more I see. The more I read. The harder I fall
I do wish they'd take that Rotor Self-Winding crap of the dial face. Totally unnecessary.

Nice impressions and pics.
I think Tudor hit it out of the park with the Pelagos. As a modern diver it fits all requirements while looking traditional in a Post-war dive watch way. "Rotor Self-Winding" is one more retro design feature. My sole complaint is lack of a120- click bezel.

Maybe he has short term memory loss like the guy from Memento and honestly can't remember he's owned this watch 10 times already.koda240 wrote:It's just no use trying to understand The Brice.Jeep99dad wrote:Very nice I have one the way and can't wait to get it on the wrist after you've shared your impressions of the Pelagos with us

Oddly, I think this could take the place of the NSA.dukerules wrote:Enjoy it. Helluva watch. I've come close so many times, but the NSA has kinda ruined other Ti watches for me.

Re: Thoughts on Pelagos
mine is hyper accurate, extremely comfortable, easy to read at a glance, enough detal on the dial to keep me interested and looks great on anything I put on it...what's not to love?!?, at least until "that" time comes around again when I get the itch to try someting else.

Re: Thoughts on Pelagos
When it first came out I thought it to be the successor to the old Sea-Dweller. I still do. At a modern 42mm size too.
