Summer Watch - 2013

Post by rockmastermike » Wed Apr 10, 2013 1:06 pm

The Timex Expedition Field Watch

40mm x 11mm in stainless steel.

Image

Matt Grey Case and dial with Minute numbers instead of Hour numbers and skeleton hands

Image

Really like the red tipped second hand with wings

Image

Thick chapter ring with cut outs at the hour indicies adds nice depth to the dial

Image
Image

Nice size crown - not too small not too big, just right.

Image

Caseback lists the 100mm WR and has as cool logo

Image

Thin nylon strap but does have a (thin) leather backing with signed thumbnail buckle

Image
Image

Lume is just okay but then then again it is Indiglo (note how the cut outs in the chapter ring make for a cool effect

Image
Image

Highlights around the date window - black wheel with white numbers

Image

Light and comfy on the wrist

Image
Image

pretty cool design elements that aren't on a lot of other $40 US watches. grab and go summer fun watch goodness

Looks good overall, especially at the price, but why minutes numbers?

As an aside the five-minute markers are reminiscent of the Tudor Pelagos.

it caught my eye in the WRUM thread...you appear to have stolen it for $40.

and by the scratches on your arm, it appears they tried to catch you.

I've seen a few Flieger/Pilot dials with that number set up - kinda goes along with the "wings" on the second hand. Probably a nod to military aviation?!?

Thanks Drew. Thanks Erik. I am going to try a thicker ZULU later tonight and see how that works.

Yeah, Paul, thanks - hell, I'd spend 40 bucks on beer and pizza this weekend so this seems like a better deal.

the scratch is from the mudrun last weekend (along with others hidden)

Yep - lots to like that you you'd expect to pay more for.

I really like that the case is grey steel and not the usual polished steel - gives it a nice look that you don't see all that often.

And the best part is, if you have young ones, is the Indiglo magic!

This.

I heard the date-quick-set can be finicky, but for a $40 watch, what's not to like!

Probably needs an $85 drew strap though... :)

Impressive Mike. I like the pelagos-style recesses at the 5-minute markers - adds some depth. Cool indiglo. All that for 40 bucks is amazing. Congrats.
