I thought this was going to be about a Topper's Special Edition. Pleasantly surprised.

There are a number of ways I'd be willing to sacrifice my life. Taking selfies isn't one of them.

First comment - I couldn’t look up and take a selfie. Vertigo would f me over.
Second comment - A stray gust of wind and the idiot is falling to death. Go Darwin go.

This reveals a bias. I don't want her to risk her life to take these photos. If she were a he, I might not give a fuck.

I find it fascinating how much confidence people have in building materials that were not necessarily meant to carry the weight of a human.

So true. Never thought of this point, but from a structural engineering perspective it makes total sense. Why would anyone design some tiny decorative platform to support a 120-170 pound human?

Me either. I was hiking in Acadia, and we had to cross a pretty treacherous, exposed part. My kids are of course fine, and my wife has never had a problem with heights, but I was moving very slowly and not having a particularly good time. My 16 year old looked back and said, "look, Dad's scared."

I love my son dearly. Which is important to remember, because the next words out of my mouth were, "Sean, suck my...knees!"

I've never understood some people's drive for fame and notoriety and what they are willing to risk for it.

It was actually the Ladder Trail going up Dorr Mountain. It's a tough hike vertically, but it only has one really hairy part.

Never done Precipice. Both times we've been there it was closed because the Falcons were mating. I'm honestly not sure if I'd do it, so I'm kind of glad it was closed so I didn't have to wimp out in front of my kids.

I've done Beehive - that was scary enough.

You are giving them too much credit. They can get their foot on it so they think it’s ok to stand on. Thought process done. Same with the guy who fell 100 feet to the ocean on the west coast. He thought, “Oh there’s a branch. I can sit there for my selfie.” Then a crack and a scream and the fish got a surprise.

Last time I was there, there was a park ranger pointing out the Falcons flying above. I asked him if they were good eating. He wasn't amused.

I was a Manhattan cop for 21 years. I’ve seen some crazy shit with people falling or jumping from extreme height.
