It has a PTU, a gearbox that apportions power between front and rear axles. I’m not great with truck mechanics. Is this like the slush box AWD system in my Acura? Why would you use that on an off-road 4x4?DoctorC wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 7:15 pmFound this link on my Alfa Romeo Stelvio forum...

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
This issue was only with the Sport model, which is a very different beast than the regular larger Bronco. The Sport is built on the Escape platform which uses a clutch based AWD system similar to many FWD based CUV's. The advantage of these is they are less expensive and generally default to FWD for better economy until the wheels slip. This allows torque vectoring probably similar to your Acura's SHAWD. Probably fine in most light trail use, but yes it appears that when the clutches are working hard on a serious rocky grade, you may have overheating issues.HapaHapa wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 8:14 pmIt has a PTU, a gearbox that apportions power between front and rear axles. Surprise, surprise, Ford is overselling the capabilities of the Sport, trying to connect it to the more serious Bronco. Not uncommon for car manufacturers.... I'm reminded of the recent ZL-1 Camaro's blowing their side curtain airbags during heavy cornering on a track with no warranty support.... despite the fact that it is advertised as designed for the track. Also the C7 Corvettes overheating...
Unfortunately for Ford most people won't realize the Sport and the Bronco are two separate models, so any bad press for one will be bad for both...

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
Sounds like the same problem as the Focus RS had on track. The center and rear diffs constantly slip so when you push it hard they overheat and it reverts to full FWD. In reality, the vast vast vast amount of people who buy the sport won't have a problem but people should still be informed of what they're paying for.dnslater wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 4:57 amProbably fine in most light trail use, but yes it appears that when the clutches are working hard on a serious rocky grade, you may have overheating issues.HapaHapa wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 8:14 pmIt has a PTU, a gearbox that apportions power between front and rear axles. I'm sure it's a coincidence, but the few I've seen were being driven by women...
We have one for sale a few blocks from my house; I looked it up and it's the badlands package. $37.5K before taxes and fees... I can think of a lot of rigs I'd rather have for 40K.

Sounds pretty close to what my gut told me. I was concerned when I read that the sport Bronco is based on the Escape platform. I refer to my Acura RDX as a car, because it’s much more car than truck. The Escape is the same.dnslater wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 4:57 amThis issue was only with the Sport model, which is a very different beast than the regular larger Bronco. Yes, and it works fantastic too.dnslater wrote:Subaru's system is full time AWD, so the rears are always engaged, similar to BMW and some Audi models. Give up a little mileage but better driving engagement and traction IMHO.

Do you ever get teased by your friends for Subaru being very popular with lesbians? “Not that there’s anything wrong with that”

Maybe it’s because I live in SoCal, but I’ve never heard mention that fifth Subaru purchaser group. All I’ve ever heard is praise for the brand.Panerai7 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 12:43 pmDo you ever get teased by your friends for Subaru being very popular with lesbians? “Not that there’s anything wrong with that”

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
well the 90's and early 2000's were horrible for subabru. they had headgasket issues for 10 year son most of their models. unfortunately i owned a few of them that did the same thing. so i think the rebranding was to try and gather up more steam to fix a car that could be better than it currently was.

Speaking mostly recently, although I knew someone who owned a Forester in early 2000’s and he was happy with the car.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 1:16 pmwell the 90's and early 2000's were horrible for subabru. they had headgasket issues for 10 year son most of their models. unfortunately i owned a few of them that did the same thing. so i think the rebranding was to try and gather up more steam to fix a car that could be better than it currently was.
I’ve seen a few Subaru models done up for off-road, including knobby Falken tires. Makes me wonder if there is a local modder.

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
Here was all the models it affected: Forester from 1999-2010, Impreza from 1999 to 2011, Outback from 2000-2011, Legacy from 2000-2009, and Baja from 2003-2005.
They would have redeemed themselves if they did a recall. It did not happen. So after losing out with a few Outbacks I don't see myself giving them money again.
We have some modders here running them also. They look pretty wicked with knobby tires.

Yeah, their service departments were telling customers that burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles was "normal consumption" and within spec. My coworker experienced this. Car was great otherwise.... he just had to keep adding oil.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 2:33 pm

I’ve owned nothing but Subaru Foresters from 2006. Never had a single issue. Best cars I’ve ever owned, bar none. I haven’t seen or heard of any issues.toxicavenger wrote:well the 90's and early 2000's were horrible for subabru. they had headgasket issues for 10 year son most of their models. unfortunately i owned a few of them that did the same thing. so i think the rebranding was to try and gather up more steam to fix a car that could be better than it currently was.
