Auto for the daily makes sense for almost everyone. My commute is against traffic so I could daily a manual easily, but the Taco is auto so my wife can drive it.jswing wrote:I'm old enough to remember when most cars came standard with a manual, and an auto was an option. My first car was a stick, and probably half the cars I've owned. Unfortunately, I'm also old enough that I have to consider my knee and shoulder joints, that's seriously why I'll choose an auto.

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
It would be nice to get The First Edition.
It comes only in Rapid Red or Cyber Orange metallic, the dark-teal Area 51, or Cactus Gray.
I'm gonna wait 2-3 years and revisit this Bronco and hoping they will offer Area 51 colorway.

I tried to build one but just pointed me to the nearest dealer... Seems underpowered??? On the Badlands version, 1.5 ltr Ecoboost?
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
reservation in last night, probably too late for an early build, but...
...hopefully worth the wait!

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
The choices are a 2.3 or 2.7, there's no 1.5. I can only say that I have the same 270 hp, 310 lb-ft 2.3 ecoboost in my Ranger and it has plenty of pickup. I don't even feel the need to upgrade to the 2.7.
Edit: the Bronco Sport has the 1.5

Same. I drove a stick from 1978 to 1994.jswing wrote:I'm old enough to remember when most cars came standard with a manual, and an auto was an option. 1st gen of any release is a big no for me.

I think Ford really nailed this release. I can't find anything wrong with it. They pretty much found everything that Jeep guys complain about their Wranglers and tried to address them. Even the base model with the stealies looks pretty nice.

I really miss my '71 Bronco. I'll definitely have to take a look at these in a couple years, since buying back my '71 would cost about the same as a new one...

Complete agreement on this.toxicavenger wrote:1st gen of any release is a big no for me.

I haven't run into issues with doing that, and I've done it 4 or 5 times. Then again, I haven't keep any of them long enough to find out if there are any issues.
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
For me the Sasquatch package is a must have, as is hardtop. I’m also undecided on 2 vs 4 doors.dukerules wrote:Black Diamond seems like the sweet spot for me, although the Badlands is tempting. Need to decide on 2-door vs 4-door (in theory, a Bronco should be 2-door, but the 4-door looks incredible to me, and of course ups the utility of the vehicle), and whether I'd throw a Sasquatch package on there.jswing wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 7:28 pmYup, I think Black Diamond 2 door is what I want, haven't been able to reserve yet, the site is jammed up.hoppyjr wrote:I like the Wildtrak but would be happy with a nicely optioned Black Diamond. Hose out interior is a win. Vinyl seats FTW!
Maybe my next car.

I’ll wait a couple years to let any bugs get addressed (and hope for a modern / retro proper Land Cruiser too).
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
It does look nice - and a strong potential contender for the Wrangler. Its going to take a bit to decode all the models, but I believe the badlands is the rubicon target.
I love the area51 color.
I would be disappointed if I had to reserve now, probably pay list when my order came up, and then have to wait til next summer. But COVID probably didnt help.
I will wait a bit on it and my jury is still out....but I can tell you with the 2019 JLUR, the one touch skytop is a game changer. It is that good. Im suprised they didnt offer that with the bronco, but it took 13 years since they introduced the 4dr wrangler to get that (and improved 4-door soft-top which is a PIMA to take off and on). 2dr soft tops easy to put up and down. 4dr not so much. And that hard top requires at least two people to take off or an expensive garage ceiling lift.
The 4 door rubicon was introduced in 2007. I waited a year and got the 2008 at the time. Loved it.
But I do like the tesla cybertruck that is coming.....I am thinking about a deposit. It cant hurt.

Like the look, but WTF is going on with that hole in the door. Don't bother putting a snorkel on that model, or fording anything other than a running garden hose.

I like a manulal but auto is better for off-roading and for heavy traffic on-road.
I'm keen on that base model to mod as needed as the first one pictured looks too much like a mall tractor. I still worry about putting 35's on an IFS vehicle and doing anything testing in it.

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
Personally think it would have looked better if this had been the end result.
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
I think 35’s on IFS can be done if the factory designed the axles and suspension for them. The Ford Raptor comes stock with 35’s (LT315/70’s) and has an IFS. I haven’t heard of those needing excessive repair, but I don’t really follow that product.bedlam wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 6:13 pmI like a manulal but auto is better for off-roading and for heavy traffic on-road.

The challenge (as I understand it as a Toyota Tacoma / Hilux owner) is people attempt to lift these vehicles beyond factory design using aftermarket parts, putting the joints at more extreme angles than the factory originally designed. I have seen people lift Toyota’s effectively for 35’s, but it requires thousands of dollars in new components and fabrication. The guys who just stuff in new springs are the ones who suffer poor steering and component wear.
The question is, does Ford put the same core axle and suspension components in the Bronco regardless of model? If so, then you can probably lift it with no issues. A lot of Toyota guys will buy TRD Off Road suspension components second hand and put them on base trucks for a 2 inch lift. It is all factory product and the trucks seem to accept the parts with no issue.
