Yeah, will do. Was also considering Bridgestone Desert Duellers. Will add Falken to the list too

It spends on what you need out of the tire for sure.streetracer101 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 6:24 pmI run Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's on my truck and the wife's 4R. They provide decent snow traction, good wet road performance and run quieter than my KO2's on my Sprinter van. I feel they may wear better too, are cheaper than KO2s and have faired well off-road. My 4R came with Terra Grappler G2 tires. It has done all the obstacles at Moab and they may be the quietest of the bunch. Point being - KO2s have been the pride and joy of offroaders for years, but they are overkill for most and there are probably better, more economical options available now. I've also read that the Cooper Discoverer series is solid in comparison to the KO2, but the price is comparable so I'd probably go with KO2s instead.
As I’ve mentioned before load range plays a big role in the way the tires feel on and off road. I usually choose D rated because E are too heavy and too rough
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
I’ve not used the Wildpeak, so I can’t comment, but I can tell you the Bridgestone tires are shit. If you get weather (snow, ice) the G015 is rated with the “peak-mountain-snowflake” symbol, meaning it meets severe winter requirements.
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
I had load range E BFG KO2s on our Land Cruiser for years, and I thought they were pretty comfy and quiet on the road. We had over 50K miles on them when we ended up selling the car. I was very happy.
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
Modern turbo engines aren't like that at all. Naturally Aspirated small displacement engines really need to rev, but not turbo charged engines. Most modern turbo engines like the Ford Ecoboost engines are making a lot of torque by 2500 RPM and have torque peaks soon after 3k. You likely would never have to rev past 3k in day to day driving, especially with a 10 speed transmission.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 7:29 amMy concerns are a bit addressed by the realization Ford already uses that twin turbo V6 in their F150, but I'd be interested to hear how many of those twin turbo V6's make it to 100,000+ miles. The Toyota 4 liter V6's may be down on HP, but they are effective for off road use and routinely run well past 100K miles (the truck's body panels may rust off, but that is another issue!). I'm not certain my Tacoma has ever seen 3,000 RPM.
I'm probably just old with an outdated perspective, but the idea of putting a small displacement / big power / low emissions engine in a vehicle shaped like a brick running 35 inch tires makes little sense. I'll have to test drive one to see if you have to wring the motor's neck just to get it off a stop light.
My BMW has a 2.0 Turbo making close to 300 hp and with the 8 speed transmission it generally stays under 3k unless I'm flogging it in sport mode.

I need E rated KO2s for my truck and TireRack, Costco, etc. has been on back order for months waiting for Michelin to resume production...stupid Covid.

If they are waiting for Michelin to resume production of K02’s, it’s gonna be a long wait. BFG makes the K02.TSD wrote:I need E rated KO2s for my truck and TireRack, Costco, etc. has been on back order for months waiting for Michelin to resume production...stupid Covid.
Edit: I get that Michelin owns BFG but had to be a smartass.
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
I’ve had both and prefer D over E for weight savings and better on road manners. E are super heavy and with added rotational mass I personally felt degraded acceleration and stopping power (increased distance)
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
The biggest concerns with small turbo motors is the high service costs when the turbo fails. The issue isn’t that turbos are expensive, but that they are inaccessible and require massive amounts of work to get to. I would assume this isn’t an issue in a vehicle the size of a Ranger or Bronco, but I could be wrong.

True. Also High Pressure Fuel Pumps are an issue in some modern cars.CGSshorty wrote:The biggest concerns with small turbo motors is the high service costs when the turbo fails. Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
Unfortunately for me, the sizes that fit my Grand Cherokee are all “E” sizes, so that’s what I run. The 280hp V6 still moves it along smartly, but I do notice the difference from the passenger rated (standard load) Yokos in the same 265/65-17 size.Panerai7 wrote:I’ve had both and prefer D over E for weight savings and better on road manners. My son has the 255/75-17 Load range C on his JK and they do seem a bit smoother riding.

I only know (a) I drove BFGs for years on my FZJ80; (b) the curb weight of an old Mercedes is 5,423 lbs; and (c) I’m taking advice of other owners to get E, not that it matters for 99% of what we drive.Panerai7 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 9:29 amI’ve had both and prefer D over E for weight savings and better on road manners. I'm sure you are correct. Like I said, I likely have an outdated perspective.dnslater wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 8:19 amModern turbo engines aren't like that at all. My previous POV's have been a series of Jeeps with their 4 liter straight 6 (great basic engine) and now the Tacoma (2nd Gen) with its 4 liter V6. My last turbo vehicle was a mid '80's Dodge Daytona back when I was in college. That car had a noticeable turbo boost that occurred once you spun it up. The power was not linear at all - but again, that was 30 year old technology. I'm sure a lot has changed.
My guess is you need 8 to 10 gear ratio's to keep these small displacement / big HP engines in their relatively narrow optimal performance / optimal emissions rev range at all times. As long as the shifts are not noticeable (unlike the newer Tacoma gearbox from what I've heard), I guess it makes no difference to the average driver. Plus, the days of the "shade tree mechanic" and doing trail-side engine repairs are largely long gone.
I do still wonder about the longevity of these small displacement / high HP engines and complex 8 - 10 speed transmissions. Time will tell.

Just curious if anyone else reserved a Bronco? My tentative build is a Black Diamond, I really want the marine vinyl and wash out interior. I want Race Red, my wife wants Cactus Gray. We'll see..

Cactus all the way!
Like my watches, I won’t buy new so I can’t wait for you early buyers to get them out and beat them up a bit so I can swoop in and save some $$

Reserved a 4 door Badlands but starting to have second thoughts. Will easily be $55k+ with the options I want and while no doubt it would be a blast, that's a chunk to spend on something I've never sat in or driven. May end up sticking with my F150 for a while.

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
I tried to justify moving up to a Badlands, but I'm keeping my Ranger, so the Black Diamond is my limit. My wife would really like me to get the OBX, but I prefer the vinyl to leather.MikeyLikesIt wrote:Reserved a 4 door Badlands but starting to have second thoughts. Been looking for a truck for fun. Buy the Bronco and sell me the F150.MikeyLikesIt wrote:Reserved a 4 door Badlands but starting to have second thoughts. Cactus is THE color.
I wanted one, but will wait until the Mustang is paid off and hopefully the Bronco will then be in good apply and deals possible.

Yep I will buy used. And I would never buy the first model year of a new model. But I really, really want a Badlands 2D.
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
They get expensive pretty quickly. I’d be plenty happy with a silver base model.

I just put a 100 deposit down on the cyber truck. Lol.
My daughters are claiming our two JLRU, so when they are ready to drive the cyber truck will maybe be available.
But I am thinking to go e-truck for my next....maybe the jeep when it actually does more on battery or if I hit the lottery the hummer.
