2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
Ok. I think I want a Badlands 4D. And an offroad camping trailer to replace the one we stupidly sold a couple of years ago.

Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
If I were picking one I’d go with badlands just as it sits on 33 tires in the pic. 35 is overkill for a daily driver. I think it’s the sweet spot between basic and fully loaded

It’s cool and all, but I’m staying focused on the Gladiator next.

Bronco Raptor = $70k + no doubt.
Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
I’m sure you guys know the beach cities scene. Lots of rock crawler capable trucks (at least they look it) picking up groceries at Von’s.

Florida is full of $100k Wranglers with ridiculous suspension articulation that will never get used.

I never understood people putting oversized muddies on cars that never go off-road. They are noisy, increase fuel use, slow down your acceleration and increase your braking distance. People are mad.

Yep. I was pissing some of those guys off because I was pulling them out with my twin stick '73 on Drummond Island at a Jeep Jamboree. Ran snow tires

Now that ‘73 Jeep is an off road vehicle. No one (or maybe just the incredibly wealthy or incredibly stupid) is taking a $50K plus vehicle off road to get all trail rashed.
I love the look of these new Broncos but I am worried about the longevity of the engines. Small displacement engines with turbo chargers to make big power just sounds like a recipe for early engine failure. Maybe on a light weight hot hatchback they work OK, but on a heavy weight 4X4 running 33 -35 inch tires? I’m just not sold on the idea.
I would’ve been much more comfortable with a non-turbo 4 liter V6 such as in the Tacoma or 4Runner. Even better would be a small displacement diesel.

100% agreed. Unfortunately, thanks to government and EPA, the era of large displacement naturally aspirated engines is coming to an end. It’s pretty much a guarantee the next 4R and Landcruiser will be turbo charged smaller blocksRyeguy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 4:57 amNow that ‘73 Jeep is an off road vehicle. Diesels have been using turbos to make reliable power in heavy trucks for a long time. Also the F150 has been using the 2.7 Ecoboost for a number of years and it has like a 9000 lb towing capacity. The blocks are pretty stout and typically issues arise due to people over tuning them.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 4:57 amNow that ‘73 Jeep is an off road vehicle. Re: 2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13
I’m none too kind to the turbo 2.3L 4-cyl in my Acura RDX and no issues to date (I probably shouldn’t have said that). I agree that more weight and bigger tires are a little different, but as a daily driver I don’t see a difference using the turbocharged smaller engine. The power these engines are delivering isn’t out of line with current norm and you are also pairing it with a 7 or 10 speed transmission. Probably also requires Mobil 1 synthetic and premium gas.dnslater wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 5:21 amDiesels have been using turbos to make reliable power in heavy trucks for a long time. I have the turbo 2.3 ecoboost/10 speed in my Ranger and it doesn't require premium. I haven't done the first oil change yet but I assume it'll be synthetic.HapaHapa wrote:I’m none too kind to the turbo 2.3L 4-cyl in my Acura RDX and no issues to date (I probably shouldn’t have said that). Here's a pic of 2 door Big Bend I came across. I'm really torn between a Base and Big Bend.
