I like a manulal but auto is better for off-roading and for heavy traffic on-road.

I'm keen on that base model to mod as needed as the first one pictured looks too much like a mall tractor. I still worry about putting 35's on an IFS vehicle and doing anything testing in it.
I think 35’s on IFS can be done if the factory designed the axles and suspension for them. The Ford Raptor comes stock with 35’s (LT315/70’s) and has an IFS. I haven’t heard of those needing excessive repair, but I don’t really follow that product.

The challenge (as I understand it as a Toyota Tacoma / Hilux owner) is people attempt to lift these vehicles beyond factory design using aftermarket parts, putting the joints at more extreme angles than the factory originally designed. I have seen people lift Toyota’s effectively for 35’s, but it requires thousands of dollars in new components and fabrication. The guys who just stuff in new springs are the ones who suffer poor steering and component wear.

The question is, does Ford put the same core axle and suspension components in the Bronco regardless of model? If so, then you can probably lift it with no issues. A lot of Toyota guys will buy TRD Off Road suspension components second hand and put them on base trucks for a 2 inch lift. It is all factory product and the trucks seem to accept the parts with no issue.
Yes. The fact there is a 35in spec from factory probably answers any concerns TBH.

How is that transition to the Jeep? Asking as I have a 2016 X5M which I absolutely love. However, the Bronco would be a fun family vehicle (cruising with the doors off, etc) but certainly would drive nothing like a X5M.

my wife does rolling three year leases (work) and prior to her last two ram 1500s we had a gc diesel for three years, so i was pretty used to the platform. while not nearly as exciting to drive as the x5m, it's not a huge step down in comfort level or utility. it's a bit of a rolling appliance, but i have summer (964) and winter (s4 wagon) sports cars for when i want to drive for fun. were this not the case, i'd likely go for something sportier than a gc or bronco.

No one is really talking about them, but the Bronco Sport is a great looking small SUV. They’re going to sell a ton of these.

I know in a few years when lease is up on the Explorer I’ll be looking at these. Love the design.

It's been said before, but damn it looks like a Defender. At 1/2 the cost and probably more reliable, these are going to be hot.

Looking into the Bronco 2dr to add in a couple of years. Hopeful they make the soft top for the 2dr in the future models.

I was looking at Black Diamond w/Sasquatch Package, but the Badlands looks like where I'll end up too (after a couple years to work out any bugs).

You guys are high rollers. I'm debating between base and big bend. The sasquash package is cool but realistically I don't want 35" mud tires. Mine will spend time driving on the beach but will be 90%+ on road so I should built it with that in mind. Plus I'm cheap. I wish 17" wheels and a locking rear diff were options on the base, those are the only things I'd move up from the base for. The black diamond's marine grade vinyl interior and rubber/drainable floors is nice but the cost to move up that high is probably too much for me.

I think Big Bend is a nice middle ground. Still pretty basic but with a few nice upgrades.

2021 Ford Bronco Release - 7/13

Post by hoppyjr » Sat Jul 18, 2020 9:26 am

I prefer base models in general, but I didn't see a way to get the LED headlights & taillights below the Badlands model.

After having retrofitted my Jeep Grand Cherokee and having the (lemon!) VW GLI with LED's, its a must have for me going forward.

My Jeep is stellar and both Outbacks were too. Not sure what you are talking about ???

VW had six window regulators, door glass, window trim, two headlamps, and constant issues dying when leaving a stop - all in 4 months. They never cured the dying, which is an issue now discussed on the forums with 6MT models like mine. I’ve been driving a manual for 40+ years and now the GLI made me look like a rookie all the time. When it was in for the second headlamp the dealer broke the hood release and couldn’t open the hood. That’s when I said “enough” and they bought it back. It spent about 7 weeks in the shop total, between diagnosis, waiting for parts, and repairs.

Maybe I’m imagining it. Maybe it’s all your lemony watches I’m thinking of.

It’ll be called the Wart Hog. I wonder if it’ll get the 3.5L that’s in the Raptor?

Have a feeling there will be many Wildtrak and First Edition models cruising SoCal parking lots to compete with the dime a dozen Rubicon grocery getters. I’m glad there’s other parts of the US where these will actually spend time off-road. Now personally I find the new Bronco quite attractive, but unfortunately when I find a job I’ll likely end up with a Cali commute on the 91 or 405 so that stick would be a pain.

Post your off-road pictures please so I can enjoy through your experiences!
The Hapa
