Gutted. RIP to a legend. Probably my favorite band (along with the Police).

Rush and Peart are near and dear to my heart as well.

I went to the same junior high school as Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson (although long after they'd left) and grew up on the band's music. I played the drums as a teenager and Peart was my idol. A terrible loss.

Such sad news! A great Canadian rock band, that I grew up listening to. RIP to one of the all time, best drummers in the world.

At the very least, he is now with his wife and daughter.

I believe both are still alive? Maybe I’m confused.

I appreciated Jack Black’s comment, “The master will be missed”.

His first wife of 23 years died of cancer and his then-only child was killed in a car accident ten months prior to that. He left the band for a bit after all this happened, then returned.

Thank you for the detail. I vaguely remember when he had left/returned but didn’t know the detail.

Read his nook “Ghost Rider”. Heartbreaking stuff.

Heartbroken.

My all time favourite band & Neil was by some margin the best rock drummer I've ever heard, not to mention a brilliant lyricist.

I've tried to listen to Rush this morning, but just I can't.

Devastated when I heard this on Friday. An absolute music legend and greatest drummer ever in my book.
He had many tragedies to endure in his life but was always a gentleman and amazingly intellectual to listen to on various topics.
The world lost another great one too soon.

Very sad news. I've been playing my own drums all day, playing along to Tom Sawyer and watching Neil's solos. One of my heroes from my childhood growing up playing drums, Neil was an inspiration.

We didn't have YouTube or access to videos of his solos growing up so it was amazing to watch them later in life and explained some head scratching parts. He truly was the Professor.

Regards Graeme

Very sad. Worth watching Rush: Time Stand Still if you have the time. 2016 documentary about their last tour and the decades long relationship the band had with each other and their fans.

This has made me reflect. It’s interesting how such a strong bond is built between the listener/hobbyist/sportsman and a person who they have never met. As a music fan, I adore the sound and lyrics and feel like I’ve lost someone very close to me when the musician (who I’ve never spoken to) passes on. The sharing of a craft, a genre of music or playing drums for example, is very personal.

Great one. Start with Beyond the Lighted Stage first though. Currently on Netflix. It’s about their start and the journey of becoming who they eventually became. Tells the story of Neil’s loss. You come to realize how close they are - great friends.

I have never been a fan of Rush's music but this dude could play some drums!
