Congrats on the weight loss and better health. I really enjoy riding, but I'm a road biker/spin class guy. Great exercise, and low impact when compared to running. Really nice this time of year for me, because I can get outside more.
Spin classes?
They're awesome. I have no interest in biking outside during the winter. People who do that are crazy.

Did a little hill training this morning. Five miles straight up.

Shimano SLX and above have a chain tensioner built in the rear derailleur. Even with the most slack I can have in the chain I don't even so much as get chain stay slap

My Deore has a tensioner as well and it’s a recent development which is why I think it’s something to do with wear.

Disagreement is not evidence of sanity.

It looks really nice, though.

Not yet. 2 winters on the Schwalbe Jumbo Jims and I haven't really felt the need for studs (even when riding on the lake we have a house on)

I took it up a hill on Tuesday, the same one in the chart above, and wow this thing is efficient. I had an issue with the seat post slipping (need to get some carbon paste) but still manged to set multiple personal records. Yesterday I took it on the trails which were wet, muddy and slippery and was utterly amazed at how fast it was even in those conditions, worlds apart from my heavy, slack, 27.5 trail bike. This thing is a rocket!

This bike is a few firsts for me, first 29er, first carbon bike, first 24lb bike, first higher end components, initially I was wasn't 100% sold on a 100mm travel XC race bike but I now believe I am in love!
