Re: Calling all MTB experts
Excuse the thread resurrection but after lots of research & finding it very hard to choose between full suss & hard tail (soooo much contradictory advice out there), I bit the bullet & got this Scott Spark 92 on Friday.
Gave it (and me) a proper work out on Sunday down some pretty gnarly / fast trails.
Very happy with my choice.

You must be from the UK, your bike is fender'd out! Congrats
Re: Calling all MTB experts
I certainly am. Despite our run of good weather since March, it does normally rain here quite often

You don’t call it a byke in the UK? Like tyre?

I tore a bunch of meat off my big toe the other day while getting the kayaks ready for the kids. No biking for me for a while!!

Congrats on the new bike! Always a fun day.
Pushing your bike? Dang I knew you guys did things differently down under but maybe you should watch some YouTube videos to see how they are mean to be used. They are much more fun to ride!

Re: Calling all MTB experts
I feel like Jamis is making some really good bikes and the prices are very reasonable. In Canada, there is a distributor that has all of the previous old stock on his website for really good prices. I snagged my Renegade gravel bike for $550 USD shipped and the MSRP in the USA is $850.
Re: Calling all MTB experts
I have no experience to compare it to really. This is my first mountain bike. I did rent a few before purchasing this one but none of them were steel. I do really like it however.
Still learning to ride properly thru the trial and error method though! A few crashes here and there.
Crashed twice today on a MUP trail!! Our first day of vacation since arriving last night. My wife and oldest daughter wanted to get a run and work out in by the river walk. So my youngest and I decided to take a leisurely bike ride along the same river walk. We got to a section of the trail that was covered in water leading up to a board walkway. Well I decided to go ahead and ride thru the water to the next dry portion. Almost there the daughter starts having a melt down that she was being attacked by mosquitoes. She is still in the dry portion of the trail. I stop to look at her and the next thing I know is I'm down in the 6 inches of water. Wet submerged boards are very slippery. Jarred the shoulder and neck a little. Key fob is wet and phone is partially wet even though mounted on the handlebars. Daughter is still having a melt down so I walk back thru the water to her. Sure enough she has a bout 5-6 welts from bites. We ride back to the truck and I wipe her down with alcohol wipes. Crisis averted!
My wife and older daughter arrive after their run. The youngest goes with them to complete their workout. So.....I go by myself to ride the MUP which is gravel and blacktop. I figure out the detour around the submerged section and get a few laps in for my exercise.
Well I return to the truck to wait for the girls as they are almost done and walking back to the truck also. I decide what better time to try a few attempts at a bunny hop. After all I am an expert now after watching at least one instructional video on YouTube. I actually manage to get both wheels off the ground on one try. So I try one more...and promptly lose my balance and fall over in the parking lot. I managed to roll like a Ninja and survive the fall. I did bruise and scrape my leg just above my ankle however.
I think I need to stick to real trails.
Tomorrow I will attempt Brush Creek in Ducktown TN. Wish me luck!
