Car Spotting
Re: Car Spotting
Nice! Starting to lean more toward listing mine for sale soon. Great for me and my wife, but not as user-friendly or fun for my 5 year old daughter.

Yes sir. Colder than a polar bear’s toenails.

I saw a civic type R today. It was awesome looking but really really quiet. I want either a CTR or a Subaru STI, but the lack of sound on the civic was really disappointing.

I was taking about an exaust on the civic type r. It’s remarkably silent. The STI is fine stock, and much louder than the type R.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 8:00 pmi do not know. everyone and their mother here has an exhaust on their sti/wrx's they sound like shit imo. i like them with a real exhaust. not something that sounds like and old lady farting in the check out lineJP Chestnut wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 6:28 pmI saw a civic type R today. Re: Car Spotting
You can still buy Mondials for super cheap. Have a feeling that won't always be the case.
Re: Car Spotting
It is challenging to make a Turbo inline 4 sound good so manufacturers tend to keep them quiet with the stock exhaust and pipe "enhanced" noise into the cabin. VW's turbo 4's probably sound the best. My 328i wagon's 2.0T sounds pretty bland compared to my old GTI.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 8:37 pmI was taking about an exaust on the civic type r. It’s remarkably silent. Subaru uses the boxer 4 which has a unique cool sound so they can do more with the exhaust.

Re: Car Spotting
The EJ257 in the STI has an unequal length header which makes it sound aggressive. The FA20DIT in the wrx has an equal length header, so it sounds a lot less cool.dnslater wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 3:43 amIt is challenging to make a Turbo inline 4 sound good so manufacturers tend to keep them quiet with the stock exhaust and pipe "enhanced" noise into the cabin. The veloster type r equivalent sounds badass.
I wish I could just get an Audi rs4 but they’re so expensive.

You're talking about a used RS4? There's no RS4 in Audi's current lineup.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 4:55 amI wish I could just get an Audi rs4 but they’re so expensive.dnslater wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 3:43 amIt is challenging to make a Turbo inline 4 sound good so manufacturers tend to keep them quiet with the stock exhaust and pipe "enhanced" noise into the cabin. Take a look at the RS3. Very cool car but also fairly expensive. I just picked up a new S3 which makes for a great daily driver. Good mix of performance and practicality.
Re: Car Spotting
B7 RS4 is still a great car. Back when Audi was shoe-horning V8s into everything lol.
New RS3 is nice. Wish they came here in hatch version.

Re: Car Spotting
Actually, I was thinking of the RS3. The A4 platform is too big for my needs. The S3 is really nice, but if I'm getting a VW group car with the 2.0T/DSG combo it would be a Golf R (which my wife hates). The five cylinder turbo motor is my main draw to the RS3.logan2z wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 7:30 amYou're talking about a used RS4? Re: Car Spotting
I checked out the Golf R too. Not really a fan of the styling, couldn't stomach paying $42K plus a $5K dealer markup for a VW (got to love the Bay Area!), and my past experience with VW service was less than positive. The RS3 is a bit hardcore for a DD for me, but it would be a fun weekend car.JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 8:02 amActually, I was thinking of the RS3. The A4 platform is too big for my needs. 2020 RS6 Avant is coming to America! Maybe some day I can afford a used one....

I wish they offered more engine options. The 4.0t is pretty awesome, but pretty old as well.dnslater wrote:2020 RS6 Avant is coming to America! Maybe some day I can afford a used one....

Re: Car Spotting
That looks pretty amazing. However, if you can't afford a new one (which I can't), I don't think you can afford a used one either - these cars are so complicated and expensive to fix.

I dumped the Defender, as I could not deal with the “unpredictable coolness” of the Beast. It broke down one too many (three times in a month) times for me.
I picked up a 2013 XTerra Pro 4X with low kms. My RTT mounts well, new BFG KO2’s...should be good for some camping trips!

Jeeps and Rovers are so cool...but I wouldn't touch them because of the reliability. In off-road vehicles I'd always go Japanese.JDC222 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 3:45 pmI dumped the Defender, as I could not deal with the “unpredictable coolness” of the Beast. Also put KO2's on the Suzuki since the pic above :-)
