The APE tune largely flattened the torque curve of the VR6. It was definitely more than the DSG could handle.dukerules wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 5:43 pmInteresting. I think Audi uses it in the RS3. But the higher torque cars, including the RS5, use a standard automatic. I'm guessing that transmission can't handle a ton of torque. Unlike the Porsche PDK.TSD wrote:My chipped A3 3.2 Quattro quickly overpowered the DSG clutch pack. You’re right, though.

Re: Watch modding, and now... car modding
Since you are in Florida, I would go GTI and not the R since you don't really need AWD. GTI is lighter and more fun/tossable. A $700 stage 1 APR tune bumps you up to 321 hp and 340 lb ft of torque with no further $$ spent. If you buy a newer one, APR will back the VW warranty for a bit more $$ although they back the power down a tad. DSG is actually better for tuning because it can handle the torque. The tune will fry the stock clutch quickly on the manual. I upgraded my wheels/tires after hitting a pothold and it doesn't really under steer that much thanks to the electronic limited slip.
This was before taking it to Florida with the family a few months back.

I’d really love one of the new Rabbit editions in that gorgeous blue. Not ready to buy now, though.

I should not post my car mods lol
It’ll be 10 pages
I just tallied up the list of stuff I only got in the last couple years for the Supra. Jesus Christ I could have at about 10 rolexes

Cars are a super expensive hobby. You spend all this money and a poor tune can ruin an entire engine.

Been there done that when I had my mustang. Brand new motor 347 stroker and the jackoff engine builder made the bearing clearances so tight they didn’t get oil and the bearings disintegrated and my $5k billet crank was a paperweight and 2 rods cracked on the journal due to the heat

Flashed Bootmod3 Stage 1 93 octane in my 335 and HOLY SHIT... what a difference! Car is SO much livelier and responsive. Serious upgrade in pull and power smoothness. ProTuningFreaks are genius!
Re: Watch modding, and now... car modding
So much tuning going on. My bottom-of-the-barrel sports car could easily get me in trouble in stock configuration. Not sure all of this extra power is really all that much fun unless you are tracking your car. Or you like going to jail. A wise man once said that is more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow.

Next Gen GTI is supposed to have 250 hp in the lower trim and something like 275 in the higher end models. I'd wait.

A smart driver can avoid tickets. Just can’t drive like an asshole. Another benefit to the BM3 is the customizable tune for exhaust sound, burbles etc. Fun to tweak and test.
Re: Watch modding, and now... car modding
Well I'm gonna be the buzz kill. I don't like the tuner exhausts. I know when my neighbor arrives and leaves without fail. His M5 sounds like a UPS truck.

Another good reason to not have neighbors.
Love it out here in the sticks.
But I do understand where you are coming from. It can be a bit much if it's on the obnoxious side.

Root cause is houses in my SoCal area are much too close together.

I'm with you 100%. Mods for better performance are one thing, but mods just to make more noise are stupid. I get to hear every departure and arrival of my Harley-loving neighbors.

Screaming eagle "off road" pipes are the basic go- to. Really gets my tinnitus going.

I have this strange theory. Somewhere in Arizona there is a a field that goes on for miles, filled with nothing but stock Harley exhaust pipes. Kinda like the airplane graveyard.HapaHapa wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 7:03 pmgonzomantis wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:04 pmI'm with you 100%. I’ve had SE pipes on my last two Harley’s. They serve their purpose. Sound nice at low RPM and catch the attention of the driver in front of you when you decide to downshift and pass.HapaHapa wrote:gonzomantis wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:04 pmI'm with you 100%. Winding up the RPMs in your own neighborhood is just a dick move.

Harley's sound obnoxious IMO. I respect the love and manner in which owners care for their bikes but... the noise is way overboard.
i installed BM3 for the performance upgrades. The minor sound/burble increase is the cherry one top for me. Not too much but just sporty enough sounding. Loving the upgrade so far.
