New Release?
I got some good feedback on the What Are You Driving? thread for 3 row SUV’s.
Planned Sepotember purchase allows me to look into some new releases:
Hyundai Palisade
Kia Telluride
Ford Explorer (significant re-design)
Looks like these will be available this summer, or earlier.
I contacted a Kia dealer on line for info and they had two Tellurides available for purchase (not on lot, though).
2020 Kia Telluride EX AWD
3.8L V6, AWD, automatic, 12 miles, Dark Moss, stock # SK6202,
Other options (Ascent, Pilot, Traverse) have been out for a while and a history is available.
Is is a bad idea to purchase a totally new model?

Re: New Release?
I don’t think it is as big a deal as it used to be. Platforms and drivetrains are shared throughout the lineup, so lost issues are usually hashed out by the time a new mode comes out.

I rented a current generation Ford Explorer, and it was one of the better rentals I’ve had lately. I’m sure the new one will be nice.

Re: New Release?
Interesting that Ford is going rear wheel drive on the new Explorers (with the option for AWD).
Re: New Release?
Transversely-mounted engine and transaxle with integrated AWD is probably less robust than the traditional, longitudinally-mounted engine, transmission, transfer case setup.mattcantwin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 8:59 amInteresting that Ford is going rear wheel drive on the new Explorers (with the option for AWD).
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I've never been a fan of FWD or FWD-based AWD setups.
Re: New Release?
I'm glad to see that the Telluride comes with a V6! I'm tired of the EPA designing cars. The force-fed 4-bangers found in most everything these days only deliver the fuel economy on the EPA test loop. In real-world conditions, they aren't much more efficient than the 6-cylinder engines they replaced, and they're more complex and stressed.

Re: New Release?
I personally love the look of the Telluride. More square and boxy and great head room.
The Palisade is the revamped Santa Fe XL.
I like Fords but to get one decently loaded. They are expensive.
I would personally wait to be able to drive all 3 then compare.
We will be looking into the Telluride ourselves next year.

I thought the Palisade and Telluride were “sisters” with similar components.tattoo chef wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 10:04 amI personally love the look of the Telluride. More square and boxy and great head room.

Yes, they are. I like the styling of the Kia better.mattcantwin wrote:I thought the Palisade and Telluride were “sisters” with similar components.tattoo chef wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 10:04 amI personally love the look of the Telluride. More square and boxy and great head room.

The Teluride looks dope. I wonder how it’ll handle off-road.

A buddy of mine has the Atlas. He absolutely loves it. It’s typical VW inside, very nice. I’m sure it’s pricey.mattcantwin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 3:48 pmThe local Subaru dealership also carries VW's; can't see any reason not to take it out for a spin when I'm ready for test drives.

Atlas isn't in my top group, but I might be able to get the VW and Subaru salesmen in a battle for the sale.Nellipj wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 4:13 pmA buddy of mine has the Atlas. They only came out in 2018. Several trim levels (4 motion or awd is one of my must haves)mattcantwin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 5:52 pmAtlas isn't in my top group, but I might be able to get the VW and Subaru salesmen in a battle for the sale.Nellipj wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 4:13 pmA buddy of mine has the Atlas. I’m ok going used with low mileage as an option.
Re: New Release?
Atlas has the MQB platform which handles nicely. Don’t all new VW’s have crazy long warranties?

German or Japanese or GTFO
Hate those wannabe Huidai and Kia, they're like micro watches of automotive industry
That Teliride looks like Volvo and a bunch of other cars, nothing original, just like Micros
Even Huidai stupid logo is designed to full people they were buying a real car Honda back in the day. Bad credit special.

Hunidai used to have a contract with MB where they would use the previous generations E class chassis and mechanicals as their top of the line model.Panerai7 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 5:00 amGerman or Japanese or GTFO

Hyundai suppposedly has the best service and reliability.

New Release?
This Hyundai Sonata kept me safe in what could’ve been a far worse collision. Also rented a Genesis a few years back in Boston - that car’s the real deal and a super value on the used market.
While sister companies, I think both Kia and Hyundai are not nearly on the same level.
I rented a Kia SUV some years back in Colorado and was severely underwhelmed at the fit/finish and ride quality. Maybe that’s changed now but I’ll always consider a Hyundai before a Kia.
I’d place Hyundai and Honda at about the same level now and I’d choose a Genesis option before an Acura

My mom has a brand new Exp. I drove it to work a few times last week (I put my 15 sonata in a ditch..) and it drives great. I really like it a lot.

Re: New Release?
I got a 15 sonata as my work car last fall. I love it. It is comparable to my bros 18 accord. Not as many bells and whistles but he has upgraded package. Still a lot of good things in the sonata and the price on these are so good. This cost $13,000 with 30k miles. Gets 32-34 mpg on highway. I get about 30 mpg total since most of my driving is distance. And it has a lot of room in it, especially the back seats.
I just went 50mph in a huge ditch last week, I was in so deep it took two tow trucks to get me out. Just some front bumper damage.
