Here’s another quick one from a solo faculty recital; just a 2 minute bunch of classical hot licks. I’m slowly cutting up the recital into useable chunks, so I might post one or two more later this week. But for now, if you have a couple of minutes to spare:

Re: DWC Musicians Thread!
This one is a bit long, because it's a big piece in 3 movements (or three "ballads," about 14 min of music, overall), but it's just a great piece of the literature for classical guitar. Written in 1981, the black decameron (El Decameron Negro) has become a standard for pro guitarists. I apologize in advance for the long play; I just don't have the computer chops (or patience) to cut all this stuff up. On the other hand, it's sort of fun to put up an unedited live video of a virtuoso piece like this--so here it is, as it happened.
The first ballad, or movement, is called "The Harp of the Warrior" and has a recurring harp motive and some warrior-like leaping about imagery; all capoeira and shit. The second movement is called "Flight of the Lovers through the valley of echoes" and you can hear the initial leading of, and ride on stolen horses out of the village, followed fairly soon by the sound of horses' hooves echoing off of the canyon walls from the valley (very pretty and idiomatic guitar writing). The third movement is called "The ballad of the Maiden in love" and is a lovely rondo with an opening theme in D that serves as a leitmotif for the princess--who has fallen in love with the warrior guy from movement one; enough so that she jacks some horses, and rides off into the sunset with him (the imagery in ballad two). So, a programmatic work: guy meets girl, guy gets girl, with some stuff in between. Thanks for listening, if you make it through all three movements.

Also recorded a run at Lump by the presidents of the United States. I have not listen to this song in probably 10-12 years but it was a lot of fun to play.

Re: DWC Musicians Thread!
did my first gig in a while last night. was a blast. hoping it ends up being a more permanent, long-term thing. i've known the guitar players and bassist for a while (been in several bands w/guy on the right). but this is the first time i've sung with this group. they finally got fed up with their old singer, broke off to do their own thing (guitar/guitar/bass/drums), then added another percussionist and asked me to sit in. and we ended up with a sax player too (he was great).
so. much. fun. hopefully will get some video/audio over the weekend.

Hey guys, haven't been around much of this year as I've been less focused on watches it seems and more on my drums. Got a new custom kit back in early summer so been spending more time on playing and less on buying watches. I haven't bought a watch all year I don't think. Wow. Anyway I started a YouTube channel with a bunch of drum covers which has been fun. Here's a bit of what I've been up to. I wanna try to be around here more as I miss the craziness a bit and I'm starting to get the itch perhaps for a new watch.

Re: DWC Musicians Thread!
i doubt anyone else here will be posting baby head theremins, so here goes nothing.
from my gig last thursday night. i busted out a baby head theremin during our finale (black napkins/zappa). i had never tried it with the band, legit didn't know how it was going to sound plugged into the back of my vocal effects unit (passthrough jack). it wasn't as scary as i thought it would be. i even hit a few actual in key notes (i guess i should actually practice with it now). pitch changes either with a knob (what i was doing) or with a light source (terribly unreliable and more random).

My music is definitely not DWC's cup of tea, but this is a simple sample of a couple of my tunes.
(I'LL BE SEEING YOU - LA VIE EN ROSE-YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE - WHEN I FALL IN LOVE - MARIE LAVEAU - LA VIE EN ROSE - THE CAPE VERDEAN BLUES -
CHITLINS CON CARNE SOLO - PAPAS GOT A BRAND NEW BAG)

I'm proficient at reading music, but my song list tunes are all memorized.
