Free Solo

This is probably one of the most insane accomplishments in climbing. The movie is probably going to gain some awards. Check it out if it is in a theater location nearby.

Alex Honnold is legitimately one of the most unique individuals on earth. My wife and I can’t wait to see this.

Also, Jimmy Chin is amazing. As with his other films, I’m sure his work with the camera is just a much as character in the film as the actual people. He’s also a great guy. Met him multiple times at screenings and climbing events.

I saw him on a show a year ago or so, 60 Minutes maybe. Remember them mentioning he has extremely strong, and unusually large fingertips.

It takes a big set of balls to do this and a very little brain.

I'd argue that you have to be extremely selfish to do this kind of thing, but mental acumen is very high. It takes a lot of mental fortitude to physically and mentally prepare for a feat like this and even more to plow through fear and pain and come out alive.

Oh I'm not saying that he is stupid. Mentally, you better be on your A game but it definitely doesn't have a highly intelligent idea impact.

Any type of climbing is very hard to explain. There’s no reason or logic to enduring the mental/physical punishment and it’s inherently a selfish endeavor. It’s also extremely personal. What Alex does may seem extremely foolhardy and I don’t pretend to understand why he does it, but it’s not because he’s stupid or seeks glory. It just is what it is and I appreciate the human achievement.

I will have to check that out. I remember seeing him in Valley Uprising (another really good documentary about climbing) on Netflix.

Some guys juggle chainsaws. Some guys base jump. Some guys climb walls.

I read the news stories. Sometimes good (hooray). Sometimes bad (splat).
