The rumours are true by now. Last year for KLR650 and new model will be out in 1-2 years time. Last last chance to grab NOS from your AD! Thanks me later for those good years to afford a cheap and good adventure bike is over!

KLR 650 is like Seiko SKX009, Citizen Promaster NY0040 or a Defender for car. Basic and tough built with a purpose.

I'm still riding my 82 BMW R100--what does that say?

I grew up on a YZ 80, then a couple CR’s, then Honda’s XR500R and a Husky 650. I don’t know anything about paved road bikes.

A great bike, although back in the day, my choice was a Suzuki DR 400 (before all the water-cooled types). I'd still have one now if I could, but they go for more than I paid new in 1981. When I raced enduro (on a Kawasaki) a friend of mine put a big four stroke (400cc I think) into a K motocross frame. At the time, there wasn't a four stroke with that kind of racing capability.

Poor at everything.

Does everything.

I've had two, they've taken me all over the west coast. Turned one into a 685. I hope kawi does something smart with the replacement, though I doubt the design will last 30+ years.

Speaking of old Kawasakis, I saw an old Concours last week. The thing was perfect, like it had been stored in a crate for 20 years or more.

I have a vivid memory of being on my ‘86 VF500F interceptor (the patriotic one) with the speedo pegged at 126-127, going flat out in rural WA state during my college days, and my riding buddy, Tarek, flying by me like I was going 70, sitting totally upright and waving at me with his left hand. He was on an ‘88 Concourse. Those ninja-engined sport-tourers have never been bikes to trifle with. They’re fucking fast for a soft-seat bagger.

Chris, the new Concours, while not a classic, hauls! A buddy had one and man...

The new ones are awesome. I’ve considered buying one that’s a few years old. They’re bulletproof and a real bargain.
