Cool, but I'm a bit confused as to why he is playing the bagpipes?

According to their website:
This year we’ll be donating $10 to the Claddagh Fund for every St. Paddy’s Day mug sold. With St. Paddy’s Day right around the corner, and Dropkick Murphy's affiliation with the Claddagh Fund, we jumped at the opportunity to help this charity out in any way that we could. Their mission is to improve the lives of suffering individuals, enabling them with the support and tools necessary to enhance their quality of life along with the lives of the children of their families.
Dropkick Murphy's are a band for those that don't know.

Yep.

We do have our own instrument similar to the bagpipes called the Uilleann pipes but it's played differently. You do not blow into them like the bagpipes you have a bellows under one arm and it inflates the bag.

Because the Dropkick Murphy's are a Boston band and we rarely give a hoot about what is actually accurate. It just looks and sounds badass. Good enough for us.

FWIW, one of the DKM's lives in my town. We'd see him around town every so often.
