Looking for something in 308 (again) or 6.5 Creedmoor though in that case I'm going to have to start rolling my own ... damn expensive.

Who knew all you watch people are so depraved. It makes me a little afraid to attend any GTG’s. WUS does not allow this kind of talk. We should definitely follow the example set by the great folks at WUS. Also we need a DWC “safeword”.

Have you thought about 6.5 Grendel? Its good to about 800 yards and sometimes more. Less expensive than creedmore but still with the .264 bullet. I do reload my own so its a bit cheaper than buying. Wolf is offering steel cased Grendel for about .24 per round when you can find it. While certainly not match grade its decent for a few hundred yards. Just a thought.

I do enjoy shooting IDPA matches and steel challenges, but I suck at it

This year I want to attend to some pistol and rifle classes. And if (big if) I'm able to save some money, I plan to get a Remington 700 for some long range shooting (i.e. playing sharpshooter).

Well goood luck on the possibility of a 700, very good place to start for a long range bolt gun. Lots of options and aftermarket accessories and parts.

Since there is a bit of good-natured grabassery and yanking of your chain going on, I'll offer a serious reply:

There are some real shooters on this board.

I am, myself, a real shooting dilettante... I hope to aspire to true poser/wannabe status once I get the required carbine and "team entry tactics for civilians" class under my belt... ;)

but yeah, I do own "moar gunz," as do numerous members. Keep posting... but not just for gun subfora access; it's proven that a high DWC post count is good for your health.

(Fucks up your wallet, though)

Nice. I'm been looking at the Savage 10T-SR and 10BA for the range. Waiting for them to go on sale.
Dudes: I know this isn’t at all what you asked, but for playing sharpshooter, check out the new Ruger precision rimfire. Feels like a full-size gun, and with the glass to get you there and decent ammo, it’s by all reports one hole at 100. A bunch of guys in my neck of the woods have bought them and rave. Can’t argue with either the cost of entry, or the long term costs. The glass will be the biggest hurdle on that fun kit.
10/22 family?

Will check it out, thanks.

All the cool kids are getting 6.5 CM's.

And the Browning hells canyon looks slick in it too :D

IDK where you guys are finding target ranges 800 - 1,000 yards or more. Everything at that length around my way is private.

We are so heavily wooded here in norther New England that there is little practical use for a 1,000 yard rifle. My deer rifle is a 30-30 Winchester with iron sights. It is all that is needed as hunting ranges rarely exceed 75 yards.

^ Nice!!

I have a nice 300 yds range 20 minutes from home and a 600 yds an hour and a half.

I enjoy shooting the AR (less than 100 yds), but want something more precise.

Well that’s a nice setup. Is that a Leica range finder I see? Very good headset as well. A bit overkill for 50 yards I’d say

Not really, it's an adjustable-throw bolt action. Does take 10/22 mags though.

I don’t think we can do much better than "beef curtain" for this place. How about we make up some classes instead?

Because I saw this yesterday, I’m taking enrollment for my upcoming "level 1 love making in and around vehicles..." tuition—positive or negative—to be determined upon receipt of application and included photos.

Yes they are ok, basically a CZ type clone. They have some entry level race guns and offered in more calibers than the CZ-75, but are not of CZ quality. For the money if your interested in this style of pistol they are decent.

All the above. I reload and shoot a lot of USPSA, plus training and shooting at work.

Nice! What calibers do you load for ? I don’t shoot a lot of competition. But I do reload a lot. I am a range master for our local PD so I do quite a bit of training.

9, 40, 45, 556, 762, and getting set up for 300blk soon. I'm mostly loading bulk 9mm these days to feed the Production gun though. After years of dabbling in competition I'm finally getting serious about it and I'm burning a lot of ammo lately.

I have a friend that tried to get me into reloading. After I look at cost and time I actually save money buying ammo. It just depends on where you get it. Of course though the nice thing with reloading (especially with competition) is dialing in that sweet spot of a round to minimize recoil, and be consistent down range.
