A very special little hatchback

Post by andy tims » Fri Sep 29, 2017 3:38 am

So in April this year, I fulfilled a long held wish, to buy a Renault Clio Trophy and here she is. Car 008/500

These were when released, arguably the best hot hatch ever made. Personally, I don't think they have ever been beaten because whilst you can buy faster now, I don't think anything else combines the rarity, looks, lightness, gutsy normally aspirated engine and just sheer driving pleasure these cars give.

Check out this video for a far more eloquent explanation than I could ever manage

Last weekend I got together with several other owners for a absolute blast on some great roads in Wales.

We had a fantastic time.

There are 17 in the next pic, but we did have 18 at one point

Some of the looks we got driving through towns & villages were priceless.

You can buy any color you want as long as it’s red

Love it and she looks in fantastic shape.

What's the difference between the Trophy and the 172?

Indeed - all 500 UK & 50 Swiss Cars were all the same special colour.

Can you guys see the video? The details are all in there, but the 172 is an earlier (Phase1) car. The Trophy is a last of the line Phase 2 182, with several special bits, most notably Sachs remote reservoir front dampers.

External reservoir shocks are pretty special, especially back when that was new. I'm not familiar with this one, but I love special edition cars.

Fantastic Andy! They are special little machines, nice to see so many well maintained.
I've never driven one, but from all accounts they are a blast.

I owned a Peugeot GTI-6 about 10 years ago, that was a great mildly-hot hatch!

I need a hot hatch in my life again. We don’t have anything that cool in the US, though.

Well done Andy. What a great car, they never sold the trophy here in Australia. But we have a
182 cup with lots of mods and a Megane 265 with 300hp chip etc. the 182 is a better car with
more than 100hp less. Love your trophy, never sell!
