Went test driving today. That was fun.

Post by ericf4 » Sat Aug 12, 2017 12:43 pm

Started the search for my next car today and checked out the Alfa Romeos. Really loved the new Stelvio SUV. It drove like an absolute beast. Turbo, paddle shifters that were the quickest I've ever used. The steering in dynamic mode was super super tight and the shifts were unbelievably crisp etc. It's certainly near the top of my list now after trying it. You gotta go out and drive one of these. Very cool.

It doesn't drive like an SUV. Not at all. Soooo fun.

Ummm, that's not an SUV - at least not by my definition. No way the outdoor gear or dogs are being stored inside that with passengers.

Oh wait, the second pic is a different vehicle, right? The top one does look like it has "some" room for gear in the back but not a ton.

It's a great looking SUV. Have you given the Jag f-Pace a go yet?

Not yet. The others I'm looking at are

Porsche Mcann
Jaguar F Pace
Volvo XC60 which btw looks beautiful. The interior is amazing.

The F-Pace is a great package, but not that roomy inside as you might think.
I've not had a good look round the others, but the Volvo would get my vote too.

I guess another to look at could be the Maserati SUV, I forget the name, but I'm not sure if it's in the same price range.

Dude that Volvo is a beauty. The design is perhaps the most beautiful and clean interior I've ever seen. They even include nav in every level, have a huge tablet touchscreen to control everything etc.

The new Volvo products are beautiful. My friend just bought the big sedan. It is stunning and the interior is enormous.

BTW that Alfa SUV does 0-60 in like 5.4 seconds I believe. It's fantastic.

As much as I love to champion Alfa, as I ran a Fiat Turbo for 7ish years, I would go with the Volvo.

I loved my Fiat, but it was the '£300 car'.. every time there was a problem, which was often, it seemed to cost £300! Loved it to bits though - and would buy another !!!

I am getting the itch bad now........once we get back from vacation i need to get serious and get a new car. I really am drawn to the Alfa and the Volvo for different reasons. I still need to test drive the Volvo, Porsche and Jaguar though. At this point i think I'm down to these:

Crossovers. Not SUV. Traditionally, SUV vehicles were on a truck chassis where these are based on a unibody or car chasis...basicslly a lifted station wagon.

Right, that's why I figured based on the examples above, station wagons with z-rated tires that get stuck in 1" of snow/mud you might as well get x5 or q7
